spider mites... i kno

So i know there are a million threads on this but i just want to explain my particular situation.

I have DFT system with 2 resis attached together with quite a few girls.. So last night I was about to leave and saw a leaf with some spots on the top. looked at the spots they werent bugs. but then I looked underneath and found 2-3 mites... who were protecting a bunch of eggs they had layed. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I could not find many other leaves with the same situation but it is a jungle in there and almost impossible to get in to the middle of the canopy. I am in the 4th week of flower, nugs forming nicely. PLEASE.. what should I do from here on out besides check every day and spray when I can? Is there any thing else I can do? Lady bugs? I think I caught them early but I know how fast they can populate

my water temps range from 70-74 and my room is 70@night and 78 with lights

YOu can do a couple things, start spraying all your leaves with a product called "mighty wash" or you can go mother nature and order predatory mites they are a mite that eats spider mites and the eggs and when there are no more spider mites to eat they eat themselves, or you can go the lady bug route. Its all up to you.

do both. bugs and spray. i normally use neem but this run i used sm 90 and knocked them out like neem never did. lets see a pic of this massive grow you cant penetrate!

Mighty wash is 99.8335%(don't quote accuracy, I didn't even look it up) water and the rest inert ingredients, some would argue their avid or floramite is also made up of almost entirely water (which is correct) but it's the remaining ingredients that are the difference. Mighty wash is water that's undergone a process and from the sounds of it holds a small electrical charge the way I understand it. You could actually probably drink the stuff IF you HAD to in a survival situation (although it is pink which must be a product of the process it undergoes)

The sm90 is an oil based wetting agent and works just like neem (or any other oil based spray) except it probably doesn't disrupt any hormones like neem does. with most oils it can be anything from rosemary to peppermint to straight petroleum oil and still it works the same way, you have to hit the little bastards with it and it in turns suffocates them. so its not a matter of what you spray really, its a matter of coverage.

always use a good sprayer. those hand ones suck. you need the one that has a wand and a remote bucket. they are $15 at home depot. youll want to spray once you have one.

even those suck. I've determined I bought the wrong thing with the atomist and should have bought an airless paint sprayer (which I do have but its been used to actually paint) . The atomist cost me more than a paint sprayer would at 220 dollars and its very harsh on plants due to the blast but it def turns over leaves and gets the job done. I tried adding a speed controller and turning it down a bit but that kinda works but kinda doesn't, I found adding a wetting agent breaks surface tension of water and does help spray at lower speed. But an airless paint sprayer, that would be the shit, much much more control.

because truly, coverage is more important than what you spray, I've said that and I'll say it again and again.

the $15 sprayer from home depot work just fine man. especially for small to medium size grows. you certainly dont "need" an atomizer or fogger or anything like that. just be thorough. about a minute or even less per plant. its not that rough of a job. i get every sq inch under and over. i also do it every 3 days for 2 weeks if i see any bugs to ensure they all get killed. maybe ill invest $200+ for an atomizer in the future but for your everyday grower, the cheap sprayer is all you need. just as long as its not the water bottle style. those fucking blow.

yeah I have a couple of those, they seem to clog a lot on me, atomist doesn't have a chance in hell of clogging, I also have a small grow and can treat it with any foliar spray completely within moments. but I know what you're talking about, like I said with the atomist you're gonna turn over every leaf there is in no time (you'll also knock off a few probably, it is harsh). But a 99 dollar paint sprayer, now that would be ease and control.

http://sierranaturalscience.com/products/natural-pesticides/sns-217 I called them and they sent me a free sample. Killed them like no other. I also used the SNS 209, look at that too. I have yet to see a mite, and that was 3 weeks ago. My plants looked like shit. Now they are in there 15th day of lower and are perfect..View attachment 2163652View attachment 2163653View attachment 2163654
Little food grade rosemary oil and drop or two of dawn dishwashing soap and you got a real cheap alternative to sns209

ill probably consider that in the near future. 150 big plants will be a lot to spray. my sprayer clogs up when i use neem. the key is to warm the water and dont let it sit. otherwise it coagulates into little white balls and clogs your shit. even with soap.

If you're not happy with spraying your plants with an oil (this has to partially clog stomata since it does nothing but suffocates bugs) try some mighty wash, you won't look back.

The other best solution other than mighty wash I've found (cheapest anyway) would be straight petroleum oil (purespray green for instance) 55 dollars a gallon. lifetime supply more than likely.

There are really only two types of growers-

1. Those who have plants that have been hit by spider mites.
2. Those who have plants that have not been hit by spider mites....YET!
