peat/perlite/poop is what i use in my SS in place of brand name bagged stuff. to this i add my amendments.

Gnats. Inconsistent growth. Some would grow fine, some would have nute burn. One several growth would be very slow at the beginning of veg.
I don't love FF, just works better than Roots for me. I will try subs shit as soon as I see it.

Have not had any problems with roots myself -- but haven't been using it too long. It's definitely the best soil I've ever worked with far above FF's soils. Looking forward to trying what tga's putting out instead but at the moment i'm sold on roots (despite the cost). I just ran out of super soil last night too so have to make a new batch soon as well.

Has anyone ever heard of, or used Dr. Earth? The nearest grow shop, for me, is over an hour away, whereas a local nursery carries this brand.

nice, it's half the price of ff and alot closer to obtain.
I messed up and bought a bag of dr. earth "planting mix" rather than potting mix and tried transplanting a clone from a solo cup into this stuff and man I felt like a dunce. I tried watering it and it was just instant mud that wouldnt drain out no matter what, not for containers evidently, LOL. But even though I didnt realize it was the wrong product it sounds like it would be a pretty good base mix if it feeds halfway decent. I never went back to see if they had anymore of it in the potting mix formula but it had my wheels turning about finding some and trying it to make a batch of SS, next time I go to that store I will grab some and try it but I'd suggest trying it unless someone else had bad results. I would like to see how far it takes a transplanted clone in a 1 or 2 gallon pot with no nutes.
This is the stuff I bought like a fool but I was mesmerized by the ingredients, or maybe I was high-ish and the colors were attractive, but in all seriousness I'm curious about it as well.

Word. Every time i've tried to use Roots, i've encountered problems...FF isn't perfect but i've yet to have bug problems with FF...
Probably just depends on where the soil is stored and other variables.

Germination rate and male to female ratios are all based on the grower. medium used, temp, fertilizer,etc. I always sprout straight in pro mix or roots organic in styro cup.Moisten medium,poke hole in top with tip of finger about a guarter inch cover lightly spray top w/distilled water to moisten keep temps in 50 to 78 deg 24 to 48 hrs youll see em pop up through the soil. Tip: Cooler temps promote more females Peace and Good luck

I got 6 beans each of 4 TGA strains and I'm already planning on popping $200-300 down on more TGA beans in a couple weeks to get that hemp depot special 
Gonna get me some chernobyl and go golden ticket hunting.... not sure what other strains i'm gonna get... one of the bubba kush crosses for sure. Once again I won't have room to pop'em for months but they'll be there waiting...

IMO yes also. Some expect 5 keepers out of a 5 pack of reg. beans. lol. If you are looking for one nice keeper, you shouldn't have any trouble.
