No urca is right. The rich would be able to do that. But I don't think they would want their child to be their slave. They'd want the poor to be their slaves. But the poor would have to say "oh okay you have full rights to give me a slave child and make me care for it while you control the masses"..

And ww, its entirely possible that in non developed countries that coporations with a vested interest in having cheap, vast amounts of labor. even countries would have an interest in it if they could get away with it, and would benefit from it

A woman would be sent back to the past role she occupied if that world came about

in this situation, there would be no choice. it would kind of happen naturally, with a large group of people interbreeding and being watered down, centralizing disease within this population.
It'd make a fabulous book, enough to compete with huxley

I know science has found many cures for natural diseases. I know that the human life span has increased due to the help of science. I know that the majority of people appreciate what science has done for us (including you typing on your pc). Nature is a bitch. She kills us like all the other animals. Science is our shield. That's why we are the most superior animal. Top of the food chain dude.

And we have discussed the risk factors. You too have the fear.. I don't think scientists will stop because you're scared. (I'm pretty scared too).

I never said they should. To "fear" is human. It helps keep us safe from danger. Don't get me wrong, I love science. I have an advanced degree in chemistry and am not against progress or anything like that. However, considering the risk factors whenever altering the natural order in such ways is of utmost importance. Our very survival as a species MAY depend on it! Splitting the atom opened up the possibilities of producing relatively cheap energy for the world. That same technology also gave us perhaps our best method to destroy ourselves. Understanding this and recognizing it is as important as progress if not moreso. It's counterproductive to take a step forward only to find we've fallen back 5.
