More Than Half The Budget....

This is a Must Share line I just overheard by Iriscience of Dilated Peoples

If half the budget is military spending, then less than half of it goes towards whatever it's defending

Why would military spending not be classified as an expenditure for those or that being defended? I don't follow the reasoning. cn

It ignored the fact that the service members' paychecks support entire cities. Deployed troops pay is sometimes included in foreign aid spending figures. Joes spend money.

Imo it also ignored the fact that most of the money spent on the nation's defense is spent on the nation. Some ends up overseas, but most ... not. cn

Yes and no, our government gives large donation to the countries that help us. We pretty much pay for cooperation from everyone. They make us rent airbases, pay per truck etc when we're supposedly helping them.

Want a little hint? It's cos they don't actually WANT you's there, so they may aswell make money for the inconvenience ;)

Knew that, nothing like going in a country shooting some friends and neighbors, force people in their house at gun point and then saying "we're here to help".

Spoken like a true non american. How are you all ignoring the obvious? It is saying why spend more cash defending something than it is worth?!

I do not see how one cannot spend more on a thing than it is worth, because value is defined by price.
Mellow, you're not answering my question. How can defense spending not be considered spending for the nation? cn

Let me give you a better question, how can 50% of your national budget be spent on 12.5% of your population?

And how come the ESRI (Economic and Social Research Institute) had to amend a report recently that said 40-45% of people with children in Ireland would be BETTER OFF not working because they'd get more on welfare?

Would you rather spend 50% on "defence" or 50% on those 12.5% who won't or "can't" work?

At least Team America pay their people for blowing up shit, we pay our lazy motherfuckers to be lazy.

For once, you guys win.

Maybe I think we are overpricing ourselves then?

Here's what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons
and defense each year, and instead spend it feeding, clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would many
times over, not one human being excluded, and we can explore space together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace.

Who gives you the right to spend my tax dollars that could go towards defending all Americans if that time came, and spend on world welfare? All I can say is, thank God for our second amendment.

Please do not divert my question. I am not interested in arguing the morality of defense spending. I am interested in why defense spending is not counted as going toward the welfare of the nation. That is the point about which i am asking, and would like a direct answer. Imo, there is bad logic in that initial presumption. cn

That is so openminded of you! Who is going to attack us if we use this approach? Who do we need to defend ourselves from? Besides the evil greedhead fucks running us, I mean?

In my defense spending approach, which I stole from Bill, it Does

So I am confused now. You posted the initial statement and said "Discuss". Now i ask a question, and you will not answer it. Did you mean "Discuss but comply"? cn
No cannabineer we must have our wires crossed. I am agreeing with you I think. Now I am confused? :eyesmoke:

Now I'm super confused. I thought we were at a sort of impasse. I''ll drop it, since I don't know "what's what" any more. cn
