I have done alot of normal seeds and now i want to venture into autos

my plan is to grow
3x Short Stuff Auto Assassin (Reg)
3x Short Stuff #1 (Reg)
in hopes of crossing

my question is a VERY simple one

will 1gal pots provide enough room in soil for roots to grow healthy threw the grow and still give me a good yield

If you have growin these strains some input would help
Yield and high is what i want to accomplish
Small plants with SOG yield is my over all goal

Hi dude,

I think it all depends. How big is your growing spoace for these auto?
I've done nothing else then growing auto's this year and I think the minimum is a 2 gallon container and then you would get around an ounce, an ounce and a half...(if grown under proper lighting with proper feeding). I've always grown mine in 3 gallon containers and got around an ounce and a half. Something I've noticed is that autoflowering strains have better yields if you do give their lateral branches some space.. I don't have a very god experience with SOG in combination with autoflowering plants.

Hello. I have a little experience with SOG and autos. If you want to maximize your space then look at square pots. Ideal for SOG. If you plan on growing one main cola per plant then the square pots would work great as you can fit several into a small space. You will need to manage your expectations though so expect about a 1/4 to 1/2 oz dried bud but with square pots you can easily fit 12 plants in a small area. IF you have a green thumb you might be able to pull more per plant but very limited in the SOG. Nothing wrong with 1/4 oz buds in my mind.

If you don't plan on trimming off the lower branches then I would suggest the 2 gals (or bigger) and give them some space. Those lower branches will thank you with some nice buds. Like Shytiva, I use 3 gals and average over an ounce dry per plant.

Whatever you do just make sure you can pull the males without disrupting any of your females.

Good luck.

I just bought 10 mixed autos from Buddha seeds and the info I got was to plant in pots 10 - 11ltr. May depend on the strain?

Quoted from above link.
Once seeds have germinated ,you have to decide whether to plant into a pre prepared planting hole
or in a container/pot. When growing in pots make sure to plant into the pot you were going to use to finish with,
i.e. a nice big container. Where as normally a soil grower will go through 3 sizes of pots (beginning , middle and end size pot)
with autoflowering strains, to start in the big pot is best...around 10 litres is a decent size.
When autoflowers grow, the root system likes to stretch out first before the flowers come on so,
when the roots hit the walls of a container, the plant stops growing and the roots will start growing around the pot
giving you a real small plant.
So if you use a small pot to start the roots circle round and thinks "is this all i got" as well as (auto)flowering!!!
Now, as I said, if you start in a good size pot say 10/11 litres the plant has enough soil space for roots to stretch out
giving you a decent sized plant :-)

I did a lot of research before starting my autos. It seemed the most popular recommended size ( by breeders and growers) was 11-15L or around 3 us gal..

In hopes of crossing what? And how? Are you planting with breeding in mind? If so forget yield and go for heavy seed production.

And I also fully agree with pon. Start the autos in the container you plan to Finnish in. transplanting will most likely lower your yield because you can not delay flowering and give them time to recover.
