Seeds and sprouting

Greetings all and sundry,

I apologise well ina dvance for the N00b-ness of my question, and i did go through the FAQm and several threads as well as methos on several other sites before posting.

I felt the ebst way to be comfortable with what i'm doing was to open the floor to the many clearly veteran growers on here.

I have a half dozen seeds I found in a bag I got a few months back.

Currently I have them sitting on a plate, with moist paper towls both over, and under them, in my closet with an up-turned bowl covering them.

Different methods have mentioned different ghints, like applying some heat, seed rot, lighting for 24 hours and so on.

Here's what i've got so far, the seeds should be in darkness/low light while they're sprouting and keep moist since water will activate the seeds and cause them to sprout. This may take a few days, at which point I'll (hopefully) see some nice white shoots, at which point can look at planting.

Is this reasonably accurate? Any corrections are MORE than welcome. Since this is my first time, and I'm a complete novice, I'd rather people were blunt (haha pun!) as hel, since ideally I'd rather not have to order in seeds for a second trial. However this being ireland getting goood, weed form a reliable source is next to impossible!

Lastly, how do I avoid seed rot at this stage?

Thanks in advance!

well the best was it to let the seed shoot out a good 3 to 4 cm then i plant them in well balanced phed soil for my outdoor strains. water them only when the soil is dry about where your seed lies. i say if i out dry don't need to wet it more.

if inside what lights setup are you using will determine the length our lights should be on

yes seed will sprout in damp napkins the way i had my sprout was in a glass with the napkin stuck down in a puddle of water at the bottom of the glass

ah ok i follow, the quality was medium I would say. Generally the quality of what we get over here is fairly low, and I'm sure part of the reason is the way it's grown, and the fact that dealers tend to flog the crap here. So I'll be happy just to have a small crop of relatively decent stuff fro my own use.

Hi,
I just germinated a few seeds. I just put mine in a cup of water and put it in a dark place and then they sprouted after two days. The roots were kind of short so I put them in a plastic bag with paper towel and after a day they grew to 1 cm. ready to go!
cheers

Cool, at least now I can be happy I'm not completely fouling up the sprouting stage, wouldn't want things to implode before the rocket is even off the pad :p

Muchos thanks guys!

Looks like your good to go. But if they all don't pop you can leave them in the paper towel but wrap it in aluminum foil and put that in a sealed ziplock bag. This will keep them dark and moist. Then put the bag on top of a tv or computer or cable box, something that's always on and puts off a little heat(don't use something like a radiator or lamp because those are too hot). If they don't sprout that way, they won't sprout period.

Perfectly timed amigo, I just checked and there's 2 nice ong sprouts and one more jsut beginning to show. but there are 2 more that are still undecided, was wondering if they were duds or there was some way i could "encourage" them. I'll give your way a shot :D
