First Grow blues..

Finally got everything to start my first grow, first set up looked to messy and left me with very little space.

Decide to have a good move around while my girls had a drink..

But now i'm suffering from heat issues (had some before but now its getting worse..)

I'm running a Ds60 in a cupboard,i have a 5" carbon and 5" inline TT125 hooked up with minimal ducting joining it all together (one right angle from the carbon and another from the fan to the hole in the top) the outlet then rans round out to another room. TT 125 is on the side at the top.

I have two 6" fan which don't move but are just above my girls running off the back tent poles.(able to move with growth)
I also have a small (cheap extraction bathroom style) fan blowing cool air in from the hole near the base.

I am hitting temps around 31+ with the light (standard 250w HID) up has high has the filter will let me get.
If i drop the the light to low i get even more heat issues ? i dont want lanky girls..

I want to run the light about 8" above the highest top but i nearly killed my 4wk old babies doing so ?

Why am i having heat issue with a 5" set up when i should be fine with a 4" ?

I have pic if needed.
Things i think it could be :-

is it best to move the pots closer to the light by raising the pots ?
do the fans need to move ?
should i be turning everything off when the girls sleep ?
is my inline TT125 not pulling the tent clean ? (filter is droped at a slight angle so the tents not blocking any sides)
stronger fan needed to blow air in ?
not enough ventilation around the tent outside ?

Any ideas anyone ?

clearly a Ds60 is not a great complete set up what should i upgrade or change aiming for silent grow to learn mainlining skills on 2 - 4 girls a run.

Also if i add a acoustic style box inside the tent will i suffer more heat issues?

Thanks for reading i have done a search but i feel this is a problem due to my set up so can't find a fix so far...

IMG_20121114_143345.jpgIMG_20121114_143408.jpgIMG_20121114_143428.jpg Has you can see the filter is free from all sides of the tent and hanging a 35 degree angle.
i did have the light inline with the fans on the back wall.

Put the fans down as low as possible, directing air upward toward toward the light.

Air should flow into the area low, to up underneath the plants, and then be swept to the light and then to the filter.

I'm not familiar with that exhaust fan and it's cfm ratings at various tubing lengths, but you do have 2 almost 90degree bends, which can cut flow significantly. Also, a cooltubable reflector would solve a lot of your problems and allow you to put the lights very close. Good luck...

Not sure from exp. but was reading a good thread about a heat issue and lot of good info on cool tubes. Seems to me they are the best solution to heat problems with (hid's) good luck and grow on

Honda I was having similar problems with my ds90. I have a 400w bulb and was hitting 31-33c without the door open. So I kept the door open and it was around 26c which is perfect but not practical obviously. Went and got a air cooled hood and now it sits around 26c with the door closed! Would heavily recommend one should solve your problems.

for sure you should be a more efficient extractor remove as many bends as possible
you could also look at getting a air cooled reflector that would solve many of your problems mate either that or a led

I did buy a cooltube but its far to big for the ds60..
No one makes one small enough for
My size tent, the one i got is the smallest and is 125cm..
I will move the fans around and see how that works out thanks guys.
I wonder if i got a larva lamp and modded it into a small cooltube?

I would seriously look into alternate lighting then bud either a T5 rig or LED's both would work well in a situation such as yours

It must be a common problem with this size set up...must be a fix...
Move both fans to the floor of the tent.the lights are around 48" above the plants now and its still hitting 35degrees...
Woundering if i move the inline and filter to mid level and see if it pull better...
Next grow i plan to build a veg box with clf and see how that works out....

Had a massive move around and still having heat issues ??? my girls are going to die if i can't sort this, please help someone ?
What would happen if i grow in a hot tent ? dead plants or low yield?

i have move my fan so it hangs down and attached the CF to it so it hangs down next to the light. (it takes up half the tent in one corner now)
The light is about 15" from the highest top.
A inlet fan is blowing air from outside the tent (the cupboard is a little warm around the tent.)
i have two 6" fans near the base, tried to buy a oscillating 7" today but its out of stock..
All my ducting is double up to reduce sound i have move my ballast to gap near the door to my cupboard
the temp is still 10 degree to hot and my tent doesn't suck in when i zip it up,but my vent on the side is open too.

i dont have room for a cool tube the tents far to small ??

Please what am i missing here ?
This is driving me mad i have took apart this tent so many time trying to improve the set up.
broke till pay day not,but if you think you know what i need to fix it please tell me !!

i know the tent being in a cupboard is probably the reason its to hot but im after a stealth grow and the set up is perfect just need to dial the heat down..

Someone please give me hope and help me save my girls

is my only option LED ?

Has anyone seen a a cooltube for a small tent ?

would a better inline help me ?

is my carbon filter blocked ?

If you have the only hood that will fit in your tent, then I would modify that hood. On the opposite end from the bulb mount I would drill or cut out at least 6 sq inches. do this as near the top as possible. This will allow the heat to escape up instead of down out the bottom of the hood.

31c or 87ish f isn't that hot, it shouldn't cause a problem. You may have just brought the light too close and burnt the plants.

If you are really concerned about the temps you should focus on lowering the ambient tempter of the room that contains the grow box. You already have a decent exhaust.

oh you said its hitting 35c hmmm that's about 95f

Since your fans are on clips, try to lower them and point them upward toward the light. This might help the extra hot air stay towards the top and by your exhaust

and I know this is gonna sound like a stupid question but are your inline fans setup in the right direction. even though i can see the arrow pointing out who knows

I
did consider that wattsaver, even thought about fitting a small flat pyrex oven dish over the bulb.
would this really help tho ?
If you cover the bulb will i just get heat build up ?
should i move the CF and fan or is it ok how i explained i have it.

The TT 125 fan i have doesn't seem powerful enough ? i have changed the wires over and back again,i couldn't tell which way made the fan run better ?

the heat is building through out the day,the new growth is clean and healthy but the old growth is yellow and dry,i'm guessing this is from nut mix splashing the seedling..
It my first time growing, didn't expect this at all with a 5" set up instead of a 4"

how high should i go with the lights ?
Wanted to try and mainline these girls so i was aiming for some close node spacing.
I'm seeing high temps but has of yet i haven't seen any leafs curing.

should i place fan outside the tent inside the cupboard space then mate ?

i have a secret jarin DS60 so its 60x60x140 i cut the poles down by 20cm to fit it under my stairs.
its a pretty tight fit the Cf and fan blow down a 6ft duct to a hole leading to my kitchen.
i pull air from a small bathroom fan which collects air from the space outside the tent its roughly 3ft and reduces in high due to the stairs.
maybe i have leak in the ducting, every time i have a move around its a total rebuild because its hard to do any maintenance in this space.
once i have it dialed its a perfect space to grow.

Kinda at a loss here that fan you have should be able to pull the volume of your grow 4+ times per minute. I think i might know something that will help. disconnect the small bathroom fan from the intake. It is probably less powerful then your outtake causing a blockage of flow.

If you have an intake it has to be more powerful then the exhaust or else it is better to just have a passive flow.

Would this be difficult to disconnect just to see?

i did try this and the temp raised to 37 with the intake off,but it is a cheap bathroom fan.
also i checked the wiring and flow of the inline last night, done the tee shirt pull test but i couldn't feel if the fan was pulling more or less.
I heard a TT125 can be wired to increase speed.?

I just added a long (foot tall column) oscillating fan to the room out the grow space will run a test for an hour to see if that helps.

I'm a total noob in growing but trust me i have done a lot of research and watched loads of videos on what i should be doing etc..
when the shop ask me if i wanted to upgrade from 4" i was thinking to myself at least i won't have heat issue with a 5" fan....

Thanks for the help ryan, keep the ideas coming and i'll test them.
