Thats not how you compost lol. If you wanted to compost your would pick a seperate location, preferably outside, thats the only way i know how to do it anyways, and put the trim in there with anything else you feel like composting and wait for it to turn to dirt, then use that dirt. You dont want that trim breaking down, rotting or otherwise creating mold in your pots, do it in a controlled environment.
In order to use compost you have produced yourself you need to compost it. Simply putting it in the soil might do that, but the soil would need to be very organic (and by that I mean with live worms and bacteria in it). It would also take ages, at least a year I would guess. What usually happens is people have a compost heap where this sort of thing occurs, with them then using the previous years compost the next year. What you did serves no practical purpose that I can see - if you did it as a little personal thing for luck then that's your prerogative and more power to you.
