How great does it feel to JUST run out of money...and BAM! Check arrives in the mail for $1,246.97

It was for 50 hours of work, so 4 days, with Ensign drilling...I thought it was only 3 and would be a few hundred less, so I was pleasantly surprised!

Now I'm just waiting on that $1,500 from the courthouse for the refundable bench warrant.

Looks like I WON'T have to ask my parents to borrow money OR work if I don't want to over the next 2 months while I'm home from the oil field

But I'm still gonna work at the mountain for a free snowboard pass. Board's all waxed n ready 2 go!

I made 1,200 with Trinidad Drilling in 3 days. $3,200/wk after taxes. I'll be looking to get back with them when I return, or Stoneham drillingBTW it's "Nabors" and they're def not the best paying drilling company in ND

Budsmoker,
That's the spirit. Reading and writing is for losers who don't wait for checks. I'm a loser who doesn't, so sorry can't pay you.

Damn, you boys in the oil fields sure make a great living..

The most I've ever seen on a single paycheck in my entire 25 years of existence is < $600

Navy sounds pretty good to me.. @ $1,200 +/every other week (1st and 15th)

Padawan, It's not that great. You work when they want, with no notice. Sometimes you can wait weeks or months between gigs. Then you wait for the randomly sent checks like the OP stated. It sucks and is very stressful.

^uhh, completely falseAll drilling rigs have a set schedule. It's the frac crews or workover rig crews that are often times on-call with strange hoursAnd this check came in the mail cuz I only worked one hitch for this company and never set up direct deposit

How did you get involved with the oil company you work for? My dad works for an oil company, Venoco, here in CA, he's always telling me I should look into it.. Seems legit, but not secure, and I feel I might earn more, learn more, and feel more important in the Navy.. Maybe not, we'll definitely see soon enough.. I'll likely be in before March, I just need to take the ASVAB, score reasonably well (enlistment depends on the score, 30 days between tests..).

Do you get plenty of work? Is it dependable? As in, you're sure to work when you expect, is it shaky at all?

fuck noo it's 100%. you gotta leave your world behind and travel to the oil field though. THAT'S the sacrifice. your job security is 100% it's the fucking bakken oilfield of north dakota, the most booming economy in the USA with the lowest unemployment rate. I've said it before but I've made between $2,400 (on a surface drilling rig...putting casing in the ground and cementin at the water table, about 2,100 feet deep on average) to $3,200 a week on a big rig, drilling and casing 18-22,000 feet. That's entry level as a floorhand/rig hand/roughneck

if you want to work in oil, move to canada. Alberta and saskatchewan are booming right now and there is a lot of money to be made. the only problem is we pay more taxes but judging by your cheques we make more per hour to balance it out
