Best open reflector?

I've seen comparisons of the various air-cooled reflectors, but if you're running open bulb, I'm wondering what the best reflector option might be.

Thanks for opinions.

Greeners tested the adjust a wing. Scored pretty damn poor. I have one, it throws almost all the light on the outside of the pattern (it is VERY wide..good for veg). I also have one of the cheap-o reflectors..the $35 dollar ones but I ahven't really taken the time to measure the ux coming off of it or its pattern.

If you have the cooling to run bare bulb..think about vertical.

Legally, this grow is just for me personally. To grow and try various strains. So I'm more interested in having 4-6 smaller plants under a 1000W so I can walk in amongst them.

Maybe these wings aren't worth a shit, then? Could look at a Luxor hood and leave the glass off, I guess.

If our just burning one bulb, you should really think about just hanging it vertically and then putting a 24" diamter screen around it and then scrog your plants around that screen.

The luxor, and the better hood that it ripped off (the OG) are really good and creating massive light in a 3x3 area, but they leave much to be desired in terms of spreading the light around. I would go with a raptor or probably the blockbuster 6... I would still leave the glass on.

really though, think about bare bulb with plants in a circle. total cost... $30 lamp cord and a 4' section of poultry fence.

Cheap but shiny parabolics give the largest light pattern.

i wouldd do a good reflector and take out the glass. i just finished four months of testing new light setups and this is what i found.
bare vertical bulbs means a whole new way of setting up the grow and just not worth it.
parabolics are good, but the light spread is huge and you really need 10'+ ceilings.
humidity is greatly lowered using open bulbs.
i dropped 10-14oz per harvest using those two methods, that hurt.
i went back to ac blockbuster reflectors and just finished my first harvest under them and yield was back to 34oz. my plants are much happier, taller, fuller and buds are much better. the spread from a good reflector really makes a difference.

Guys, what do you think of Rob's comment on the Gravita? SS1 looks like you'd agree with Legally Flying on the Blockbuster 6

i dont think i agree with anything legally has to say. i have used them for a couple of years and am only giving my experience.

If it were me, I'd use a Super Sun. Why? Relatively even dispersion with a 1K and little loss of light intensity, again, relatively speaking. Good luck. Simon

Thanks Simon, That's good to know. Greners didn't test that one, so again, good to know.

I used to use a blockbuster 6".

Grow is in my sig link.

Notice how I said used to though. HOT FUZZ took it away when I got busted.

Fucking great piece of kit. It kicked ass with a 600w in it.

I've got a friend who uses large adjustawings. They seem to work fine for him. He uses 2k watts 12 plants 3 week veg and got 3 lb dry

The supersun II's are awesome hoods as well. They were one of the top hoods in the ICMAG AC hood test awhile back. They throw ALLOT of concentrated light. That said, they ARE a little narrow. I have 6 of them that I run 600's in. honestly I think for a 1k watt you would want to run a wider hood.

The blockbuster seems to be the goto in terms of best performance. My second choice would be the super sun II and there is a site that has them for $85 plus shipping. The only problem being they are a little narrow. If your going to scrog, I would go BB. If not, then the SS II for the penetration and light intensity.

The extra sun wing is pretty damn close in terms of light spread and it is only $40. Can't beat that really if your just starting out. Don't worry about it not having "ends" on it. There is essentially no light coming off the base and tip of the bulb.

I really dont understand why companies make really long reflectors like the magnum XXL... the two ends of the reflector do very little.
