for the last 4 years now i have been noticing this little grasshopper in my garden. i get 1 every year at this time. he is always on the plant that is in this one area. whatever plant i plant in that spot is what he shows up on. it will stay on this 1 plant all summer. i will be able to find him every time i look for him. he will be right on top of this plant. i don't know what kind of hopper this is. i have never seen any more than 1. i don't know what it mates with but it seems to always leave at least 1 egg for the next year. this is all really odd but enjoyable.

do not kill the bugs. they all play a VERY important roll in the ecological system. :blsmoke:

except spider mites:blsmoke:
food for the predators. if i didn't have mites all my predators would leave and seek food elsewhere. a small, controlled population of mites feeds the good bugs.

did you know that ants work with aphids? i learned and saw this last year. the ants like the "honeydew" the aphids produce. in turn they don't eat them. it was pretty cool watching them work together. :blsmoke:

That isn't a grasshopper it is a type of predacous katydid,he is a good guy like a mantis.:peace:
he kinda looks like a grasshopper a, katydid, and a cricket. silly me has a garden bug book but i'm too forgetful to look him up. i looked for him all day yesterday and didn't see him. sometimes they do this though. he will soon show himself. i will do some research and see if i can ID him.

good guy, mantis what? You know what happens when those things mate right?

my wife is terribly afraid of any spider around, last week she saw ones little home in between the boards on my porch and Insisted I kill it after she went inside. I argued with her momentarily till i decided it would do no good, and said ok. When she went in i finished my smoke went in and told her i killed it when i really did nothing. This week me and my cousin saw it catch a fly with no web. Im glad i let him live flys are bad this year where i live

maybe your lil cricket will keep something like this from happening to you?
