Harvest time close?

Hello! i have a Feminisedseeds auto critical and it is now on the day 36 of flowering and the bud is starting to look amazing and i don't know when to harvest. about 70-85% of trichomes are cloudy and only like 1-3% are amber. the hairs started browning yesterday.

I was thinking about cutting her down on new year but what do you guys think?
Or can i just harvest one branch for new year and harvest the rest later?

Looks good man, but be patient, and give at least another week and half to 2 weeks, she'll bulk up, the hairs will recede, then it's time to start giving GOOD pics where we can check out the trichs.

Remember that the trichomes will continue to degrade even after harvest.
So you don't want to harvest too late (with 15%+ amber) because you will end up with a quite high amount of amber trichomes and a huge loss of potency-

It seems like the plant is nearing peak harvest, I would let it go as far as the plant can go but keep an eye on the trichomes so you don't get a nasty surprise.
That could be anything from a few days to a week or two (it all depends on how (and how fast) the plant matures).

I decided to cut a small branch today to quickdry and test the potency. I placed the trimmed but slightly airy bud onto a paper and placed them in a oven with 130C temperature.
They dried up in about 10 minutes and they were very crumbly and grinded up easily. the smoke was harsh from the small amount of nutrients and chlorofyl. The high is really awesome. i smoked 0.5 grams from a joint and it was potent as fuck. i think i will start flushing it so i can harvest at new year.

Nutrients aren't stored in the calyxes.
The smoke was harsh because you dried the weed improperly.
When you dry @ those temperatures you basically ruin the trichomes (and the plant material).
Sure you might be able to sense the high and get a feeling of what it might be like for the particular strain but you will not get the full potential of the strain.

Ok. Thanks for the info. I put her into flush today and i will harvest her at 1-3rd day of january.

I've not done auto's yet, so my opinion is just purely speculation but i would say those plants look like they can do easily another 10 - 14 days before they get near full ripeness. And 36 days flowering sounds far too soon even for autos.

Honest opinion, I think it'd be a waste to harvest any earlier dude - which if u want it for New Year would mean chopping it down today to give it the weeks drying time which it would need at least. And i wouldnt recommend growing another week, chopping New Years Eve & smoking it the same night as that'd be a waste too, as Kojin rightly advised about drying.
I'd say buy some normal stuff for NYE and finish & dry this plant properly (at least 10 days dry & cure if u can) so it'll be there for u mid-Jan when ur probably more desperate & more skint! (if u are anything like me anyway; i may be wrong! lol!)

The main reason i say this is cause that does look a very nice, healthy & vibrant plant and i think if given near 2 weeks more then it will reward u further. Like i say, i not grown auto's yet but your one looks a very good advert for them! So if poss, let it finish well & dry & cure for a little while. The difference in taste & potency will be astounding.

And i apologise for sounding like ur mum admonishing u for being too impatient on harvesting ur plants! lol! U can smack ur own wrist for me!

I know but i wasn't prepared for the smell. It smells an awful lot even though i have active charcoal it leaks too much and the smell is on the apartment block stairway...
Even though i love the smell and it is a bit on the citrus side, i think the neighbors wouldn't like it if they knew. so im going to harvest early, fix the grow closet and start a new plant as i am going away for 2 weeks after new year.

fair enough dude - that sounds like a good plan if u are having bad smell issues - its puts a different spin on the subject anyway!

Best of luck for the new one then & enjoy what u do get anyway!

Thanks. We decided to cut of the smallest branches and dry it in advance to stash it away so we can try to keep the plant for this week still under the light. the trichomes were 80% cloudy and 1-5% amber. they were the smallest of the buds and had matured more quickly than the bigger colas.
The plant is developing ok and the smell isn't that bad if nobody opens the doors in this house. luckily the smell is so citruslike that it isn't the most suspicious smell around.
The flushing has started to make it ripe a little. hopefully it will be as beautiful as it can be, for now the buds have gained a little of the purple color that i love and i'm already proud of how this looks. i will upload few pictures later

so far so good but be patient... I'd say wait until all trichs are couldy with 20-30% amber. Another 3 weeks easily maybe even more!

Hello. I took a few pictures while changing the water and washing the roots.
Why do the roots look like that? they don't smell that bad.

I have been flushing her for a while now. She looks fantastic but im afraid that she wont be ripe enough at new year. She has been stripped down to just have the final biggest buds growing on it.

But at least i will get something from it. The lower airy popcorn branches and the ok branches that we cut were quite a flavorful when dried for a few days. they dried for about 3 days at 23-26C. there was about 5 grams worth of goodish bud. Little raw yes and some nutrients in the taste but the high was really strong and long lasting already. I just hope that im not rushing this too fast for her...

She looks to have peaked, or very close i'd take her down within the next few days as you already are, good job, enjoy.

They are at a point where it is time to start checking them with a microscope. You can get one from radioshack for like 12.99 and then the guesswork is taken out of the equation.

Looks to be at least 3 weeks away. She is going to fatten up quite a bit in her final days so be patient here. All of those hairs are going to turn a brown red and lots of crystals are going to appear. Go on Amazon and invest $30 into a professional jewlers loupe. 30x will probably work best, I bought a high quality 20x made in Germany (beware of the crap ones they sell for 10 bucks, these are often mislabeled as 30x and wind up being a terrible 10x). Even with my 20x I can see when the trichomes are clear, cloudy, and then start to turn amber.

Let the trichomes tell you when they're ready. Trichomes should be at least 100% milky when you harvest. Some prefer to let them turn amber first. Personally, I wait until they're all milky and then watch very closely. As soon as I can see roughly 1 amber per 50 milky trichomes I harvest. I go this route as I know a few more trich's will turn amber in the drying process so what I end up with is perhaps 5-10% amber trich's. Exactly when to harvest is completely subjective. If you're looking for a more intense, uppity high then go milky, for more of a kick back relax and not move high go for amber... the choice is yours :)
