While imprisoned, certainly not.

But our correctional system is based on the notion that once the sentence is over, the convict has paid.
Also, not all felons were violent criminals, and our legal system doesn't discriminate between a paroled rapist and a paroled drug manufacturer or embezzler.

I suggest that ex-cons should be granted citizens' rights, which includes gun rights.
I have no qualms with severe penalties for ex-cons caught doing something mean or dumb with a gun or any other weapon. cn

reasonable gun control:

anyone found mentally incompetent by a court (crazy) or institutionalized for serious mental illness can not own firearms until a shrink clears them.

anyone convicted of a violent felony loses their right to own firearms for the length of their sentence and parole, once that term is expired without further incarcerations they may once again own firearms.

anyone who is convicted of a violent felony with a weapon is forever barred from owning firearms and they get double the sentence for using a gun.

anyone on the blacklist of those prohibited from owning arms who is found in possession of a gun, gets a felony charge

anyone on the blacklist who uses a gun in a crime, a new felony charge, plus double time on the primary charge, and can never own a firearm ever again.

selling or giving a gun to a person on the blacklist: felony charge.

purchase of a firearm is contingent upon a check of your name date of birth and some other identifier (driver's license number, social security number etc...) against a blacklist of those prohibited from owning arms.

the check against the blacklist will not be recorded, if you aint on the list, your name does not get added to any other list.

if a gun owner is convvicted of a violent felony unrelated to his guns, his guns will be stored in a secure location at his expense till they can be returned, or sold on consignment by a gun dealer (his choice) but he gets the money.

if a gun owner uses a gun in a crime, his guns are taken and sold at auction, and his victim gets the money.

if a lawful gun owner uses his guns to stop a crime, he gets a $50 gift card for red lobster.

Friend and I had just scored. He had 2 oz, I had 2. Woops. So, the Federal law says "convicted of a serious felony." Good. Nothing serious about a couple of Zs, right? But, you find that the definition is similar to the situation I warned Mr. N about. The plumbing interconnect laws. Under the covers and you have to dig, the definition of "serious" is IF you COULD have done 3 years in jail.

I spent NOT a DAY. I spent a lot of money, though. And I was never sentenced to any specific time to not serve. As a yout, I plead nolo contendre and I fell into the rehabilitation category of an "indeterminate" sentence....Suspended. For Pot, not guns. No violence. Not dealing. Just getting high.

So, enlighten me how your pleas of reasonable make any sense. It is already dastardly unreasonable.


And I say there is no problem with guns and kids.

Skate boards, drunk driving, home abuse, etc is what kills kids.

So, I have jury notices, but not allowed to own even one .22 short, rim fire cartridge. Well, fine.

I grow up, get married, become settled, law abiding, tax paying, a Lt. of Industry, etc, and my wife's Mother passes away.

She inherits a nice, functional, not fancy set of guns from her mother. Some pistols, a deer rifle, a shotgun.

So, her rights are infringed. She is not supposed to keep any of this at home, because of she married me. The burden of proof that these don't belong to me is almost impossible to hurdle. I'd have to take a plea deal and do time.

So, do the numb-nuts see we are already ipso facto, infringed by the, deep down, broad brush plumbing, that makes my wife an accessory to my prohibition? Her gun rights are trod on, not by laws or even regs. It's the hidden leverage that forces me to decide between a year in jail or risk 10 years in a jury trial about the nuances of possession, for my wife's weapons. She, of course, has no record.

OTH, you don't see me crying about it.. Protesting, writing to Congress, repeating talking points. I'm excluded and possession is a gray area when there are guns in the house. I spent the money on the lawyer to get the real answer.

But there's something to be said for mounting a picatinny on top of the carry handle so that, with practice (since your optics are so far from your bore), you have a real decent mediumish range rifle but if your optics fail, you got your irons That's the plane with mine. My optics will likely match the cost of my weapon.

And I must say, the non-factory piston system makes an AR a VERY serviceable rifle as opposed to the "somewhat" it is without it.
