Better than any water you can make or buy, HELL Yeah collect rain water.

I know I thought maybe it was a silly question, the plants in my 'outdoor' garden seem to like it. but you hear things about pests, either fungal or whatever.

I wouldnt be able t collect enough for all my plants but for this Organic CoCo I'll give fresh rainwater.

808, you have to proud of those tops hempy brother, if not, I'm proud for for you.....can you sneak us some shots a minute or two before the HPS comes on...or right after it goes off (in natural light). I'm dying to see the true colors of your GDP & BW.

Its great to see some super nice plants in straight perlite. ... proves again it can be done without verm. I'll remember this when people ask my advice about running straight perlite.

Would it require more watering in straight perlite with say temps ranging from 72-82? I was thinking about trying a split tent next round of both. But if i'm going to have to water the perlite everyday I wouldn't see the benefit. Not that it would stop me, but it is nice only being every other day.

Thanks, Moebius. I really like the ease of this method, I first learned of it last summer, while in the middle of a grow. Thought I'd give it a try and was very pleased, though it was one clone in a 2L that I left open to the light. It did rather well on yield and was just as potent as it's mom if not more.

I run plants in straight perlite in air pots and plants in 3gal buckets of perlite with a 5gal bucket res. Both are growing fast and vigorous. I wouldn't trust it more than a day with out watering. I run them both on water stakes on a 1min on/ 10min off cycle.

You would think so without the verm which does hold more water, what I have found is perlite holds water also and allows for more air movement alone. The 2L I ran was still damp and wet a week after harvest, though the top 3 to 4 inches were dry, even after keeping temps around 75 to 84 degrees in the tent. I watered it every other day to every 3 days and only gave 3 cups of water at most before I had substancial runoff.

Unlike the buckets I'm running now, where I average a half gallon for my 3.5 gallon buckets and a quart and a half for the 2 gallons. I still feed/water every other day.

My perlite tested at 45 percent air and 25 percent water after flood and a thorough gravity drain.
I am automated but am considering adding some of the rock wool chunks maybe 20 percent to bring me up to a 37 percent water level.
I hate vermiculiet as it has a very very high cation exchange rate (even worse than coco) and holds on to nutrients. To me hydro is inert and highly steerable.

I also may shorten the pot height and or use finer perlite as even the fine i tested ran at 40 percent air which is plenty but of course holds more waterand of course
running wider shorter pots increases media water levels.

That is the other thing about my grow is I use the small perlite. The first grow I ran was with the coarse perlite. I am finding that the smaller perlite does stay moister higher in the bucket than the coarse. Here are some shots of my first hempy.

hey again all, I had a good shopping day, I love thrift shops, found an undercounter kitchen light, had a t8 bulb in it, I never would have bothered with it, if I had not read it here, so thanks...anyway it'a cool white bulb 15 inches, it will go in the Boom Room, The Bloom room. I also got another diningroom fixture with 5 lights on it, so another 10 light fixture in the making...a nice fountain with a pump 3.00. I use them to drain my hydro tank into the 5 gallon bucket when I change water...it's a cheap pump but does the job with less mess....

A Hempy update, some of the first hempys I planted and forgot about covering now have mold in the perlite? what do I do???
The plants look great and they have grown since the transplant, I'm so proud....

Well this last weekend I pulled the Maui Thunder out of the jars. (4wks of burping). And the final weight on the single plant run was 6.5 oz. This would be a personal best for single plant indoors, but there is one caveat, she is slightly seeded from the tripod male I had in the room, so I can't give her the trophy.

Also ran some bubble hash from some yr old sugar leaf trim that I had dry screened for keif once already. A fair return for something that was headed to the waste bin.


The wife almost blew a gasket when she caught me breaking up a single 1/4 oz cola and packing my small bho extractor (turkey baster). But I ran out of that golden stash.

Right on Tex! Nice to see another 2g & 3.5g bucketeer on board...hopefully your efforts will be be rewarded with bigger root systems, bigger plants and higher yielding buds.... and less work watering....as a matter of fact I can help you relax that feeding freq. when it gets old, just PM me. I think you are working too hard.....you need time to enjoy life and the fruits you produce.

If its green and looks yuck, then its algae. .. Do not worry about algae forming on the top of perlite or Rockwool, its usually happens, it doesnt penetrate further than the top and will disappear as the plants canopy blocks the light in a couple of weeks.

A pic will confirm its algae but I'm 95% certain thats what it will be.

Hey jela ill take some natural light pics and post them this week. Btw how was the stretch of the c99. I got some c99, pineapple express and holy grail kush on the way. All inspired by your great pics and short story review. Gonna run them after my next sog.
