My Dog Zippy......

..This is one of the hardest weekends of my life...Monday Feb 25th will be Zippys last day with me and my family..Her next birthday would of been her 17th.. Back in 1998 she got to go to yellow stone on a month long camping trip, she was a real good rat getter, she killed a rocky mountain rat one night in are camp, and I had a hard time getting it from her it was kinda messy..

In the year 2000 I was getting my race bike ready for a big race, I fired it up in the shop and Zippy attacked my back tire and put a hole in the side wall of my slick, I had to red label a new over night just to make the race. For some reason the loud bike just pissed her off..

When she was in her prime she got in a fight with a possum in the woods by my house, I wasn't home at the time and when the fight was over she drug the possum over near the front door and it was almost as big as she was, She got hurt pretty bad and I had to take her to the vet, She swelled up like a beach ball from a bunch of punchure wounds to her ribs and back but she healed up..

She had 6 beautiful puppys one time.and I wish I could of kept one.A friend of mine has one of the puppys that I can visit.I might take Zippy over to see one of her puppys tomorrow..I think her puppys are about 13 years old now..

Anyway her back legs are starting to not work and she started wimpering, she is nearly blind and can't hear very good..she is starting to suffer..So I made an appointment for monday 4.00pm the 25th of Feb....

I thought I would share some Zippy stories with my fellow growers......My life changes Monday..I love Zippy so much...........nitro..

This is the saddest thing I have read on RIU. This my friend is the only bad thing about owning a pet. They don't enjoy as many years as we sometimes do.It hurts so bad when they leave us. I know you don't want to here this but getting a new one helps.I hope your heart finds some peace . Enjoy what you have . Blessing to you.

Sorry to hear. I'm glad you got to spend 17 yrs with her and I'm sure she loved it... lots of hugs and kisses is what she needs to get from you, or you from her. I truly feel your pain. Best wishes
Stay high

Sorry to hear that man. That can be one of the toughest decisions a person has to make. We had to put my childhood dog down whdn he was 16 (i was about twenty at the time.) Boy was it rough. I now have three dogs of my own ,the oldest being almost nine, and i dread the day he leaves me.

My thoughts will be with you on Monday, I think having to have your loyal friend put to sleep is the worst thing ever during the time my husband and I have been together we have had four dogs put to sleep all have had a good happy life and they all reached a good age. Although its a sad time, you have got happy memories of them to look back on we still laugh today when we look at photos of our past dogs they each had their own character and none of them could be replaced each one was unique. You have done a good job with zippy and the last thing you can do for him is prevent him suffering I only wish we could do the same for our human companions. Stay strong and give him lots of fuss and treats this weekend. X

I recently had a dog forced on me. I didn't want her, but the alternative was she would be put down, so I kept her. Now I got her all healed up and looking good and I must say, I love her. She's such a good dog.
I don't envy your task, but you know your doing the right thing. It's hard, but it's right. Nothing deserves to suffer.

Stay positive, remember the good times, and get uncomfortably high. One thing about being human, you never forget, but you can love again.
