is 84*F too hot in my tent?

topic says it all: My tent is running an average of 84*F with the lights on, too hot? I have a 6" inline running a carbon filter sucking the hot air out and blowing out my window. Using passive intake with 1 bottom port open and a whole flap open on the other side. Not sure of a better way to get temps down?

humidity goes from like 20-30% lights on to 60% lights off. would using a vented hood (like a cooltube) knock down the temps inside? using a cheap wing hood right now.

Yes a cool tube will help, but humidity will help drastically too. 20-30 is too low. Buy a humidifier and bring it up to at least 60,youll notice it drop below 80. Probably cheaper then a cooltube as well and it's getting two birds stoned at once!

84° is not too high...but pushing it...if its 84 w good air flow ur fine...but not 84 at lights on n then 64 lights out....what's ur dark temps?

84 IS too high for April. Only going to get hotter. If you bring it down now, and increase your humidity with a humidifier you'll be ready for possible hotter temps in the summer. Maybe buy a cooltube in the summer. Or both now

with good air flow ur fine. Iv seen tents go up to 87 and ppl seem to still get it done.

dark temps are 64*F, that's when the lights were out
Well damn that was a good guess...that's too much swing...20° diff....if its 84 day n 74 dark ur good....might b kinda shocking to em w the 20° drop daily....u can't put a space heater in there at night to warm it up some....that's what I do...mine are running low 80s day low 70s nite n they're fine.....its all what they're used to.

Depends on the airflow in the tent and where you have the thermometer placed-- is it atthe side of the tent or at plant level under the lights?

If on the tent, it is likely hotter than that at plant level---

If you do not have glassed-in hoods-- get them! If you do- use a bigger exhaust fan to suck the air thru the light & out of the tent.. and make sure there is a good strong fan in the tent moving the air (the plants should always be moving slightly)

If you have a good intake as well- check the temps where the intake air is coming from- you may need to re-route from a cooler location. ;)

Mine run 77-79 during the day and 72-74 at night. Pin point accuracy. Took me awhile to get it down though, and you will too. Everyone here has given enough advice to find your solution

20 degree swings from day to night are normal. As long as your air isn't stagnant then you're golden. SC is really hot and humid and my first ever grow was in a room with temps in the 90s. Movement of the air is key! Don't recirculate the hot air, replace it!

Here's the set up, on the bottom left i have a 4in duct tube for intake with a small fan pushing air from it, plus the whole left side flap off. The thermometer is right next to the plants under the light. The plants are now in planted containers but the vent set up is the same.

The inline fan shuts off with the light, but the small 6in fan at the intake stays on 24/7

Shit my humidity jacks up to like 80% when the lights go off stays at a constant of 50-68% RH. But my temp never peeks over 78. Different strokes for different locations

You want the intake on the very bottom and exhaust very top. If not, you'll have stagnant air that may be problematic later on or in hotter regions. Connect a small piece of ducting on the intake so that it reaches the floor and ease the exhaust up and you'll notice a difference in your temps too.

Where are you taking temps? I got a wall thermometer 5' high that right now reads 69F, a thermometer on the soil surface of big bushy plants (shaded) that reads 67, a thermometer in exposure to the lights that reads 85, and a soil probe thermometer that reads 78. Anyway I have come to the conclusion I was chasing my tail on temps. So here is a temp swing right at 20 degrees, all at the same time depending on the measuring point.

Anyway I have decided if I get in the room and it feels comfortably warm, maybe a little bit hotter than I like my living room air it's gonna be OK. Then chill it at night.

If I were you, sit the filter outside the tent, connect the high powered fan to the filter, run the duct from the top to suck the air out. This increases your air flow because you have less duct,[FONT=arial, sans-serif] makes your fan more efficient, takes the heat of the fan outside the tent. Plus look into getting an air cooled tube or hood, that will help A LOT!
