Federal drug agents raided a Brighton Township business Tuesday because they believe it’s a marijuana dispensary, the business owner said.

But the business owner says it’s not so.

Jeff Mote, owner of Grow Green MI at 5079 Canterbury Road, said Drug Enforcement Administration agents and Michigan State Police “took a bunch of records.” He said they did not find marijuana because his business is not a dispensary, but a grow shop selling gardening supplies.

“They said they thought there was marijuana leaving the building,” Mote said. “They took a bunch of records, basically, and they said we’d hear from them in the near future. I’m not sure what to make of it.”

Mote said he was questioned by police for three hours and then returned to his business. He declined to say what he was asked.

“It’s all growing supplies. I’ve got to settle myself down,” he said. “We’re not a dispensary. We’re selling equipment, lights (and) tubing.”

Richard Isaacson, a DEA spokesman, confirmed the search warrant was executed around 10:45 a.m., but he declined to release additional information due to the ongoing investigation.

Mote said his business has been in the Brighton area for four years.

According to its website, Grow Green MI’s staff includes horticulture specialists, microbiology and genetics professionals from Michigan State University and master electricians, plumbers and heating-and-cooling experts.

Its services include grow-room design layout, energy audits, alternative growing methods and certified water testing. Its retail store offers hydroponics systems, replacement lamps, nutrient, additives and green gadgets.

Odd that it was the Feds, not just state and county.
> this is no joke,
and it sounds like they didn't catch him red handed if he was up to something. they took a buch of files so we'll see where that goes. guess they raided a nearby Dr. as well, could be related to certifications. grow green has been doing certs since they opened.

The address quoted above is their warehouse for online mail order distribution and is off old 23 in an industrial area. GrowGreens also has a retail shop in downtown Brighton on Main Street. I cannot imagine what LEO is thinking here.

If this is just the feds data mining orders, that scares the hell out of me :o

I am guessing they watched the store for at least a week writing down licence plate #'s and the whole nine.
Taking a cab to those joints is still worth the extra time and money in my opinion.

grow green only operates out of the warehouse now. the storefront on Main Street has been closed for sometime.

I think we all must admit that many store owners and employee's are all too often stupid when it comes down to it . I recently quit a gig at a undisclosed Hydro Store and I ll be honest , there were stupid people all the time in there running there mouths , bragging and then there were undercover informants on occasion as well that would come in and inquire if you know what I mean . You never know who might be watching the shop as well , rippers can be born at any time .

I decided as well that I dont really want to be seen at any other stores period in my area , I ll just buy when I am visiting in a distant city lol . I have always kept myself stocked and intend to maintain my own stock , the net saves me more than anything and this company mentioned is my fav in our state

In the end I realized that the owner of the store had done fucked up one to many times and the heat was on and now . I am proud to say that was my last day worked there and I will not be setting foot in the store again due to this alone .

I damn well know that many store owners are using there stores as a network hub , nothing wrong with such in my humble opinion but I do not want to be apart of this due to Leo and the rest of the opposition . Its not worth the risk for me in the end .

I too used to never drive to the stores and always used cash , the second I still do and now I dont think I will visit any Hydro store for some time thanks to the many dipshits who have painted bulls-eye's on there buildings . There are only 5 in my area and 3 have arrows drawn on them for there stupidity !

Fuck!

The feds now know what a good deal I got on my 8" Magnum XXXL.
They are going to be pissed when they only find 11 plants here.
just saying.

This is a real bite if it's trouble for them - that is the best grow supply outlet in the mitten in my opinion.
They got their records; so if you ordered 40 hoods to your grow...

Man we got to get this shit legalized so business can thrive and citizens can grow their own for meds or personal stash.
None of us, card or no card, have any real rights when it comes to federal raids.
We are truly second class citizens as the War on Drugs that targets US denies us fundamental search and seizure rights granted by the Constitution.
This is insane, and it seems like a long time.

It is a natural progression, especially in a quasi-legal marketplace, for business owners to fraternize with large accounts. That "fraternization" will sometimes flow in both directions... The authorities know how to address those situations, as we see here. BTW, there is likely a "trap" placed on their website, don't visit the link, and would the OP please edit and delete that for the safety of all...

Not a bad idea to give the grow:weed:green link a rest.

man13 may wish to remove it fro his post, but it's a buyer beware world we live in!

Good eye slumdog that definitely was a bad choice of .img by the web designer. i went out to this shop one time inquiring about employment and got epicly weirded out. it felt like everyone put away the "bad stuff" right when i opened the door and everyone was staring at me like "SHIT did he just see that". idk thats probably the usually stoned grow shop guy but idk a little extra in this place.

its a bummer for anyone who dropped a pretty penny out there on 50 lights like a poster b4 me said. the place is a great idea i hope this guy keeps it going if they make it through this shit. if not some one else needs to jump back on it.
