here in the states we have an opt-in policy, meaning by default you are not an organ donor unless you specifically check a box that states you want to be one. some countries have a default opt-out policy, and by default EVERYONE is an organ donor unless they specifically opt out.

i am technically an organ donor though i don't think my organs will be considered "usable" as i'm fat and i smoke, but fuck it. maybe they can use something.

I am not a donor. I have hep C and could give it to any one that used organs or blood from me. I wish I could be a donor I thing it's a great idea. I mean your dead so why not help someone else live. In a way you or a part of you lives on.

i don't know about the skin but if they take your eyes the mortician will just put some kind of marbles in there so you don't look weird for the open casket. i know that doesn't do anything for the "weird feeling", but at least you'll look good at the funeral.

yeah the way i see it is im giving everything else i can at least have something i want which is my eyes and skin, i personally just dont want them gone so thats my choice really lol

I'm opted in for organ donation, they can take whatever they want or can use...anything else will just be turned to ash when I'm cremated anyway.

Not sure if I agree with an opt-out policy, seems too close to mandatory to me, though I'd bet a lot more transplant organs are available that way.

I worked in the industry. I told my hubby AFTER I'm pronounced you can give them anything they want. But frankly I'm a bit of a bitch and I'd rather not give them any more incentive to see me dead since I figured most have enough incentive already (see I'm a bitch). So yeah I'm a donor but not on my license.

Its opt-in policy here and i never sign up. Mostly because i really doubt much of me would be of use. But i could very well be wrong and change my mind. Ive considered it. I guess if they can use any part of me they might as well. Not like ill miss it.

given the shortage of usable organs, it just seems to me that the opt-out policy makes the most sense. it's not like it would be foisted on an unknowing public. anyone who wanted to keep all their bits and chunks could easily declare so. it just seems like so many people don't bother to opt-in for reasons that are essentially unimportant to them individually. shit like pondering their own mortality and getting creeped out, being too lazy to fill out a form, etc. it seems like very few refuse to be a donor for religious reasons, which begs the question: what's the problem?

is it the tired myth of doctors "not working as hard" to save you as they salivate over the thought of dismembering your corpse? is it simple heebie-jeebies? is it the opinion that an opt-out policy is too intrusive? what makes one option better than the other?

being a donor could get your dead butt off the road faster. not that it would help you out, but it would beat waiting on the coroner to pronounce you dead.

I'm and organ donor because when I'm dead I'm not using it anymore and I want the rest burned anyway, that said though organ donation should absolutely be a choice. To force organ donation on everyone is a gross overstep of boundaries

Everyone who's on the organ donor list, make sure your family/close friends know too. When someone is pronounced dead they often ask the next of kin or emergency contacts for final confirmation.

And yeah, I'm on the list. What good will any of my organs do me if I'm dead?

For me, this issue is about choice but for others it has a more ominous ring to it...Bioethics
