Keeping height down

All,

I have a LED light grow space of limited size. 2ft square base, with a maximum height available of 5 feet.

Can anyone give me some advice on the techniques they use to keep plants short? I know starting with the right might be a good idea, but I don't where the seeds I planted came from.

I like the scrog method to keep em short and busy with all the Bud site`s just under the LEDs

Like above person said. Home depot sells a scrog type thing in the garden section. Its next to the tomato cages. It is round and checker patterned top with 3 sticks that go into the dirt that prop it up on each pot. So you can have mobile individual scrogs.

Pipe cleaners with a weight attached to them are great. Bend over the tops, attach the pipe cleaner, adjust weight size as plant strengthens. This works to reinforce the top of branches too, making for more solid buds.

good advice, I just used a few bamboo sticks and some chicken wire I had, be creative, but yes I also like to be able to move my scrog around

the tomato cages can also be used, some do, tho other type of grow, and Im in love with the scrog, specially for LEDs as they are kind a one directed so to speak, great par light and great penetration, but don't spread out the light much, so keep em small and busy and right under the LEDs, I found that mine is to strong at 12-15 inch`s, as I got some light bleaching on a few top Buds in the center of my LEDs, 15-18" is more like it with my LEDs

I like to use a couple of methods to keep my girls short and bushy. First I like to top at the 5th node and pull the new tops out and keep em even with the rest of the plant. Then I top the 4th node branches and pull them out as well. Then when the new tops grow out top and train and tie, top and train and tie. After doing this a couple of times you end up with a very low plant with multiple bud sites ready to veg. Here are a couple of pics that better show what I mean by all this. The first one is a Skunk#1 done and ready to flower, the second is an Iced Grapefruit I am working on in veg and getting her ready, and the third is the top of a Blue O.G. that I'm pulling apart and widening the canopy some. It's all about getting as many tops out under the light and strong enough to support the coming load of flowers. I like to pinch and bend the stems to get them really strong. I'll pinch them but not crush, and then work them a little and just leave them bent over. They'll pick back up to the light and when they do they'll be much stronger and slightly dis-colored but that's normal. If you keep up with it they will turn into antlers almost with great highways of nutrients and good stuff. I hope this helps some, best of luck with your garden. Peace out.

How many plants are we talking about? If you have 1 then I would top. 2 or more ( if you can fit them) scrog.

U can try and find some bushmaster to hit it with in the first week of flower or you can jack up the silica for the first week or two of flowering. Honestly, you should start with getting a strain that doesn't grow tall to begin with. Also, using LED's, you probably won't get much stretch anyways.. As far as I know, LED's don't put out anything beyond 700nm. You need to get to 770nm to get the plant to promote stretch. that is the spectrum that tells branches to stretch (it actually tells shaded parts of the plants to try and grow out of the shade as well).. Not saying that they won't grow, just that they won't stretch as much as they would with HPS, Flourscent, MH...

can't argue against scrog, haven't tried it yet myself
but for quick taming of a plant, LST does have it for ease and simplicity

If you can be arsed with the effort ,scrogging/ lst are a sure fire way to keep em low and increase your yield. If your a lazy cunt like me you can just force flower them very early, no later than 7 nodes high or 6 inches tall. They will go on to get about 6 -8 times bigger so far in my experience. The real stretchy sativa can be flowered from seed and get to 1 m or so. Or go with an indica that is proven not to stretch much after flowering, most anything with sativa in it will stretch a lot more than 2x/ 3x bigger you keep seeing regurgitated on forums... way more
