ISPs Rates/Speeds

I just got my Comcast internet bill and it was $81 for one month. I initially signed up for 15Mbps and it was $30. After three months they automatically boosted my Mbps to 25 and charged me $45. When I called today I found out they boosted me to 50Mbps and raised my rate to $81/mo. This HAS to be illegal. I am under no contract so I am free to move about the cabin.

What is everyone else getting/paying?

I am not a gamer and do not need lightening fast service. We barely watch Netflix.

Thanks for your input.

I got the same thing as you Clayton. Mine has always been $80 though. It works good most of the time. I'd think of changing it for something cheaper, if I didn't have to have some strange people all up in my business to do so.

My Comcast bill is $225 a month. I get all channels, telephone and 30mbps down, 20mbps up. On average, when downloading torrents, I can get 3MB/sec down. That's more than enough for me. I can run a home web server, watch Netflix and download several torrents at a time without a glitch.

I had that. The loaded baked potato triple play? Then I canceled all but the internet. Because I don't watch tv and babies are expensive.

psh bachelor .
I would have that regardless of relationship status. I need my channels. I need Spike, HBO, Showtime, NBA, Hockey, NFL and Golf channels. I need my internets. I don't really need the phone, but the Triple Play package has it in there, and I use it for my fax machine.

DSL $30/mo. or I Pad wifi on free hotspot. The only game I'm addicted to is angry birds. I don't think I need all the extras

What's your average ping time? That's also crucial for gaming.

the internet portion of my bill is about 60 a month with the promo (regular price around 80). 25 meg. it's the lowest speed available here. 5 years ago 25 meg was as fast as it got here and it was around 90 bucks.

it has a lot to do with where you live, not just the company. if you live in the sticks your internet is going to be shit no matter what the company is.

I actually had 18Mbps when I lived in the sticks and it was only $30/mo (DSL)

I pay 60$ for 120Mbps, ya I want Google fiber but they don't offer it to me yet :(
Who ya with?

Comcast told me the next step down from 50Mbps is 20Mbps and it is $70, so for the extra $10 I get 30Mbps second more. Am I just being a tight ass, or does $70/mo for 20Mbps sound
ridiculous?

At/t for 15mbps-- same price~ You don't need 250mbps like some (gamers) who are compensating for lack of pvp skills with bandwidth.. :hump:

(they shouldn't be able to upgrade your account without your consent)

I dumped Comcast. The bills just kept going up and then I'd have to call. Hated it, oh uhmmm, I extremely disliked it. So I turned on my mobile hotspot, ordered Netflix and anything else I want to watch I just go online, then I made my own HD antenna (better reception than the store bought kind) and I'm home free. Well, almost free or at least cheaper then Comcast.

$30 hotspot
$8 Netflix

Have thought about getting a sport package for the better half. Can you order ESPN for online viewing?

Edit: Almost forgot download speed 20.45
