I started the floweing process 9 days ago. I dont see any signs yet of any sex whatsoever! Ive read it takes 2 weeks but im just wondering if its 2 weeks before they show any sign at all? could it possibly just be taking longer? they are on a 12/ 12 cycle w/no problem-plants are healthy. technically they suld only have 5 more days to go. is that enough time for some preflowers to show? please help- thanks-btw they are bigger now than in this pic. ill have to post but no time now

where do i get a pocket scope and where would i look for the sex? i just made it completely dark today, before there may have been a little light getting through-not much at all but i was leaning towards the thought that that may be the problem. i had black plastic bags covering the outside of my growspace, just today i put a thick dark brown tarplike thing over it- much better. it was dark b4 though. i ope i didnt screw anything up-at worst im just looking at more time to tell the sex-yes? i hope i didnt help hermies form:cry:

you can get a 100x scope at radioshack for like 10$. looks a little early as far as your space goes to be inducing flower but the plants look good, shouldnt be too much longer before they show their sex. you dont actually need a magnifier to discern sex, they are visible to the naked eye, balls =male, sexy raindrop shaped preflowers with 2 white hairs coming out=female. the magnifier is for judging when to harvest based on the color of the trichomes.

depending on strain (like some sativas) can take weeks to show sex. if it is any consolation - females tend to take longer to lift their skirts :leaf:

Be patient and all will be well. Just make sure you don't have any light leaks during your dark period. Also add a oscillating fan if you don't have one.

A pocket scope is used to check the trichomes and sex. It gets you up close and personal with your plants:-)

Just my 2 cents- after 3 days I was already seeing pistils in a major way. These are some Northern Lights and they are exploding. These were some females that were from some possibly hermaphrodite seeds! I have had 7 females in a row. Imagine that. 7 females in a row from seed.

Just 3 days after switching the lights to 12/12- all Three of the plants I'm growing have gone unmistakably female. Now I have gone 2 weeks- and the plants are covered with pistils- They are budding like you wouldn't believe. I am guessing that they need about 6-8 more weeks before they reach their trichome covered COLA exploding high!!!! How amazing is that? It's pretty hard to imagine them doing anything otherwise! All I have to do is keep them healthy. To keep them in the zone of being about 3-4 feet tall, under a 400W HPS, in 3.5 gallons of quality loam soil! These babies are in Cannabis Nirvana!! OMFG- As long as I can keep things all good for the next 8 weeks- Nothing could be better in this plant kingdom!!! (A kingdom of some 360,000 species!!) This Kingdom is nothing to laugh about- I kid you not!!!

An interesting thought I had was that in MY case- I let the plants VEG for a full 60 days! before daring to switch into 12/12. My guess is that this doesn't happen less than 60 days on average. My plants need to be big fat bushy monsters before I want to go to to 12/12. I want to take it easy and slowly. I am guessing that many people are in such a rush to get to THC that they are not willing to let the plant take it's time. It is going to take at least 4 weeks- maybe 8 ! My plants are not ready to harvest at this time! They need another 6-8 weeks at least!!

Your plants will show sex during veg if you let them grow long enough. Mine did at day 40. I'm not sure how a magnifying device could help you tell sex. The preflowers are plenty big enough to see once they give a clear indication. At first they are just little lumps. I would expect that since your plants are on the smaller side it will take longer to show. Don't sweat it, it will happen soon.

Good job with the news mared!!!! You are absolutely right. The whole thing about Preflowering- It was not obvious to me. I didn't get a clue until I switched to 12/12 and then the pistils came screaming home! How loud can those things get???? They are simply amazing. Whispery feathery like appendages!! They are simply the most amazing part of the Cannabis Plant of all- To miss those, you would simply be a looser- What the hell is wrong with you????? - Bob

yes all plants show sex if grown vegetatively long enough. In a hurry is not the only reason people flower early. The main reason we flower before the growth stage is done is because the plants at least double (Sativas quadruple or more) in size after switching to 12/12 and not everyone has the vertical space to accommodate the monsters.

when you are first starting to grow and never having seen plant sex before, it is easy to misidentify the plants gender. Plus folks are just nervous and anxious doing something new and different. We are here to support them through these anxious times - not to tell them how dumb they are or that they are losers for not realizing how easy it is.

the plants growth stage is: seed (germination), seedling, vegetative, preflower, flower, seed set

no kidding - the poster made it sound like they could tell sex using a microscope BEFORE pre-flowering occurred and we wanted to know how that could be...

I was just joking about the reference to being a looser! I am all with anyone waiting for plants to flower! I guess my sarcastic wit has gone unappreciated. The last thing I want to be is Mean! They don't call them the flowering plants (Magnoliophyta) for nothing!

Pre flowering tells you the plant is mature enough for flowering.

Prior to that is like trying to get a 9 year old girl pregnant.
