with a 150 watt hps you should be able to get about 3-4 ounces from I think. You will defiantly get more yield if you go with the hps light instead of the fluros.

using 2 2ft t5 fixtures I think the most you would be able to get would be about 3ounces (I may be wrong but I say that would be pushing it)

a good hiegth to keep the hps away from the plant is 16" away from the top of the canopy if it isnt a cooled fixture. And youll be surprised to see that a 150-400watt hps dosent make that much heat unless its in a small area like in a closet.

Suppose I put the HPS in the clsoet..with like 2 fans pointing at it?..Will this keep it cool??Like Ima have some regular house fans pointing at the bulb??!

I know someone who has a 400watt in a closet with 2 of those pc fans cooling it. I think a house fan would keep the air moving good, only deal is that you need some way to bring fresh air IN the closet.

could you cut a hole in the door? If you can then you can vent it with a boxfan and never have a problem with heat @ all.

Oh oK...sounds good man..I have alot of those fans around...But cant I just open the closet door and fan them every other hour??

I'm running 2 150W remote ballasted HPS's in a closet.

Pointing the fans at the light will cool the light, but NOT the room. The hot air being blown off the bulbs, unless vented, is just circulating inside the room. I don't care hot my bulb is, I care how hot my room is.

My room can get to 90F no prob (6x2x8) But I'm also on CO2.

thats why I asked about the door. You cant be there gauranteed every half hour of the day to open that door and fan the air out. cause if you cant your plants would die.
I think a 150watt would be okay in there with a couple fans but it would get to like 80-85.
If you could cut a square in the door and put a box fan there blowing out though you would have no problems @ all (I dont think anyways). That should exchange all the air in the room every 5 mins or so.

Ok..so you guys propose I get one or two fans and point it directly at the bulb..with maybe a smaller fan blowing air on the plants....and then have a box fan INSIDE the closet poiting OUT through a hole in the door??Am I correct? You want the fan sucking air from the inside of the closet..and blowing it out the door right??!Just checking...will this same method keep a 400W cool?Or am I doomed??!

a box fan sucking air out on medium should be great to vent out the closet. But the door needs to be shut with the fan mounted in/on it somehow for it to get a good air pull.

Or an inline fan to make a hood into an aircooled light is only 40 bux but you have to have a decent reflector for that.

anybody disagree with the box fan idea?

I really dont have the funds/experience/knowledge to set-up a ainrcooled light with all the ducting and shit...But this lil box fan idea doesnt sound to hard..If doin this will turn my closet into a comfortable spot for my plants..then Ill do it.Does anyone else think this idea will work to cool a 400?!

400's DO NOT GET THAT HOT!!! I think your overthinking it.

Simple outtake ventilation in a closet is well enough to keep your temps in acceptable range!

Shoot I did that just fine in a closet once with a 1000 watt, and never got above 80...

Really?Thats good to hear..Ive always been intimidtaed by 400,600W HID's cus I thought they get too hot to manage..so will cutting a hole in the door and putting a fan on High keep my 600 Lumatek cool??

sounds like a solid plan to me...

Lets say that it does get outa hand? I can help you set up a exhaust system for $35, its really simple to do, and would make cooling the room much easier.

But only if its needed.

I had a 1000w in a closet as well I had to air cool it and temps got to about 85 max but my daily checking on the plants was enough to keep the temps in the 70's most of the time.

i went to this hydro store and the guy said i would have to buy and inline intake for a 400w hps do i really need to get one for my space of 2feet length 3feet wide and 4feet high front of it cover by curtain but most of the time it will be open i think he just tryin to sell it to get for my money

It will help tremendously to control temps also it allows you to put the light a bit closer to the tops of your plants so if its not that much more money and you can afford it go for it.:peace:
