Theres been talk of making this the "law" so its politics.
huffpo is requiring real names to comment starting next month.
I dont post or read that trash but I'm sure some of you do.

Personally i think anonymity is what makes the internet what it is. This will be a huge lid on open speech if it goes mainstream.

On one hand it probably will cut down on mud slinging and slanderous stuff. On the other hand RIU goes dark...

The internet is the only place you can go and say whats on your mind without any worry of retribution from friends, family, coworkers or the gubment. If you have to put up your full name that all goes away.

pretty easy. require a credit card to signup.
Sure there are 1% of people that will go out of their way to get a burner card or use their cousins. But for the most part it would work.

I will admit that I would like to know who El Tiberon is, but I think a law like this is a terrible idea. It will result in murder. There are a small fraction of crazy people who will feel slighted by an online argument who will murder their opponent.
