Why do the leaves keep turning yellow and then dry up?

Manganese (Mn) Micronutrient and Immobile Element

Manganese Helps enzymes break down for chlorophyll and photosynthesis production, as well as it works with plant enzymes to reduce nitrates before producing proteins.

Having plants that are deficient in manganese can turn the young leaves into spotted (mottled) yellow and or brown areas on young leaves. Dead (Necrotic) yellow spots form on top leaves, while the lower older leaves will or may have gray specks and or spots. Symptoms can include yellowing of leaves while the leaf veins can stay green. Can also produce a chequered effect. As the plant gets newer growths the plant will seem to grow away from the problem, that’s why the younger leaves may be unaffected. On the top of the leaves, brown spots can appear. While the severe areas of the leaves turn brown and wither. Parts Affected by a Manganese deficiency are: Young leaves.

Too much Manganese in the soil will cause an iron deficiency. The blotchy leaf tissue is caused by not enough chlorophyll synthesis. Your plants will seem to have very weak vigour caused by the excessive amount of manganese.

Problems with Manganese being locked out by pH troubles

Soil pH of over 6.5, High iron soils, Low nitrogen Soils, Dry weather
and compacted soil.

Soil

Manganese gets locked out of soil growing at pH levels of 2.0-5.0
Manganese is absorbed best in soil at a pH level of 5.5-6.5 (Wouldn’t recommend having a soil pH of over 7.0 in soil) anything out of the ranges listed will contribute to a Manganese Deficiency.

Hydro and Soil less Mediums

Manganese gets locked out of Hydro and Soil less Mediums at pH levels of 2.0-4.5
Manganese is absorbed best in Hydro and Soil less Mediums at pH levels of 5.0-5.6 (Wouldn’t recommend having a pH over 6.5 in hydro and soil less mediums.) Best range for hydro and soil less mediums is 5.0 to 6.0. Anything out of the ranges listed will contribute to a manganese deficiency.

Solution to fixing a Manganese deficiency
Foliar feed with any chemical fertilizer containing Mn., or mix with water and water your plants with it. Any Chemical/Organic nutrients that have Manganese in them will fix a Manganese deficiency. (Only mixing at ½ strength when using chemical nutrients or it will cause nutrient burn!) Other nutrients that have Manganese in them are: Manganese chelate, Manganese carbonate, Manganese chloride, Manganese dioxide, Manganese oxide, Manganese sulfate, which are all fast absorption. Garden Manure, Greensand are both good sources of manganese and are medium/ slow absorption.

Now if you added to much chemical nutrients and or organics,( which is hard to burn your plants when using organics) You need to Flush the soil with plain water. You need to use 2 times as much water as the size of the pot, for example: If you have a 5 gallon pot and need to flush it, you need to use 10 gallons of water to rinse out the soil good enough to get rid of excessive nutrients.

Picture 1 shows a manganese deficiency in flowering.

Why do your pictures in this thread and the ones in the other have different looks?

These pics look like almost nothing is wrong besides a nitrogen deficiency.

I'll have to go back and look at your other pictures again.

this is not the same plant correct????? this is the picture in your other thread. THIS is Mn Deficient. the picture above may be N def as well as starting to show Mn deficiency as well........... Read through the thread i posted in both of yours. and it will give you a good selection of things to try to cure your issues.

Good luck

No problem. Next time that happens to you(No one gives you help at all) just PM me after you start the thread. If you NEED answers. i'll have them or find them for you.. Bookmark that thread for future use. :)

Good luck again

Cool, thx man. i have another question....I've foliar fed the one that has the nitrogen deficiency and it never corrects the problem. What do you think I should do to fix the problem right away?

will take a week or two to show improvement i believe. Depends on how affected it is.

What do you plan to foliar feed with?

I can't tell you what I'd do because we probably don't have the same nutrients :)

i used Dyna-Gro liquid grow 7-9-5. Should I not use that since it's for vegging? I also have botanicare pure blend pro bloom 1-4-5.

Here are a list of things that help fix a Nitrogen Deficiency:

Chemical Nutrients

Advanced nutrients Grow (2-1-6)
Vita Grow (4-0-0),
BC Grow(1.2-3.2-6.5)
GH Flora Grow (2-1-6)
GH Maxi grow (10-5-14)
GH floraNova grow (7-4-10),
Dyna gro Grow (7-9-5)

So adding anyone of these above should fix up your nitrogen deficiency! Nitrogen deficient plants usually recover in about a week, affected leaves will not recover.

Should work fine.
I've watered with grow nutes during flowering before to green up a yellow plant.

just go ahead and feed with grow nutes this one time and within the week you should see improvement if we have figured out the problem.

As stated above. Improvement will be No new affected areas Not dead leaves coming back to life. :)

Cool thanks man. What nutes do you use? I only use dyna-gro during veg and during flowering I use botanicare pure blend pro bloom, botanicare Cal mag, and botanicare hydroplex towards the end. Is that enough nutes?

General Organics full line. No pH problems ever. and i feed every watering with NO problems and amazing growth.
I have tricks with the nutes as well to make the plants do what i want. :) the only good thing about working with the same nutes for over a year. you learn shit. :)

If you'd like to see my garden(40+ plants) i have plenty of pics :)

3 years lol.........
Only done ONE other grow with real(paid for) genetics.

First plant was a John Sinclair VIPER clone i got from a buddy. CFL flowering, MG nutes and soil. 7 grams.

Next was bag seeds 16 started. 2 kept for veg and flower.
next was a strain my father brought me called SxI. grew out 3 total.

then bought myself some GHS indica mix; Trainwreck(only one to grow from the pack the rest didn't pop), white widow, white rhino, AMS, and the church.
Also had G13 Labs Auto AK. HSO Blue Dream, HSO Sour Diesel #2, G13 Labs Royal Kush, and Ripper Seeds GrapeGum.

Now i'm breeding my own strains. :) first attempt at it...

Running 13 strains at the moment....

YES(no)

I have to say yes because UNTIL you know how to grow and WELL. don't try it.

I got lucky. When i started growing, 2 of my former neighbors were already growing for a few years.

Then my dad came around for the first time in 7 years, for about a week HAHAHA, and gave me some tips on how to improve and some seeds of a strain he himself crossed.

But THEN i found RIU. and i started a grow journal and started some REAL seeds. And as i grew i was given tips and ideas from a SMALL number of people who followed my thread.(at the time i did NOT branch out to talk to anyone. I was so focused on learning and improving everything.

And once that grow was complete i thought a little better of myself and my abilities. I upgraded my gear and space. I started in a 2'x5' closet and CFL lighting(from home depot not a grow shop). I NOW have a 8'x4' text HALF FULL a 400w MH/HPS and another 400w HPS(just ordered my MH conversion bulb for that so i can increase my lights in the tent to 800W for veg..

Without the help of MODs and members on RIU i would not have the grow i do now. I have a blue dream with 38 tops from super cropping. Only because a MOD introduced me to the idea a few months back. I had NO IDEA what it was about. and now all my large plants are super cropped....

Cloning was my WORST ENEMY. 1 of 50+ my first attempt at cloning.

Now 100% success. if you click on my Breeding thread below, there is a post of my cloning methods step by step with pictures..

Anyways. got some people to run around and talk to... Check in later to see how you're doing.

Take Care
Stew
