With regs you may get a lot of males or hermies, with fems, none! At least I have never had a single herm and I have grown several different strains from a lot of different breeders with no issues.
 
see now i cant understand why peeps that use regs swear by them so much?????? i thought it may have been bigger yields or something???

There is absolutely no difference. It's like I tell people who say fems suck, I would rather trust the breeders who combined have 100's of years of experience breeding than some twat on the interwebs. Well that and the fact that I have never had one problem with fems.
 
only way to find out is to do a side-by-side with the same strain, one fem, one reg. I have not done this but the fem seeds I've had all had an end product I couldn't find anything wrong with. I've used them when I wanted seeds but didn't have much money, instead of risking 2 males by buying 2 reg seeds, I pay a bit more and get the one fem and that solves the issue. I wouldn't buy fem seeds from anywhere though - only a trusted seed bank.
 
The reg seeds have more phenotypes. The fem seeds not as many. Fem seeds are going to produce just fine so it depends and what you'd like to do

There are not many reasons why people prefer regular seeds, I really haven't heard many solid reasons, more phenos may be one of them.

Fems can save you money nd space. I hate raising a male for 5 weeks and then tossing it. (I am about to do that, lol, making a fem. Blueberry seed crop from regular seed)

I can not argue with that.
It makes me think that properly made fem seeds are more stable than regular seeds.
I have noticed less phenos in fem seeds I have made, but that is anecdotal, of course.


Hmmm, gonna have to smoke down and put on my thinking cap.
 
Once you start to flower and you find your girls it's a good idea to take clones. That way you have your flowering plant and an identical copy just in case you find yourself a wonderful keeper. If not then do something else with it, donate to good will
 
That is one of the biggest problems I hear about with regs such as TGA and others, is that you can get so many different phenotypes! In fact there are a few strains of TGA where he will even list 4,5, and even 6 different phenos.
 
Usually same output just you know what your getting from day one with fems. Now regular seeds are a plus if you know a strain has several pheno types and you want a specific one not included ion the fem produced seeds..I usually buy 1 fem seed of a strain I like then pop it turn it into a mom for cloning then I will use a clone to fem my own seeds out of so I never have to buy the strain again

i have no proof of this, but my thinking on fem's only having limited pheno's is as follows.

being that you eliminate half of the gene pool with fem'ed plants by not having a true father plant, you will now have half the chances of different chromosone's lining up together by virtue of there only being half as many of them, there fore there are much limited chances of varied pheno's..

like i said, i have no solid proof of this, other than what seems to me to be basic science, but i could obviously be over looking something major as i'm no breeder..
 
I wonder. Selfing a plant with an identical clone vs. 2 female clones of different parents. I would guess 2 clones of the same mother would lock those genes in and 2 clones from separate mothers would give slight variation.

I see no reason why the phenotype variation would differ whether the seeds are regular or feminized, excepting the fact that regular includes males and thereby skews the distribution of said phenotypes. The negative characteristics of feminized seeds are simple:

1. If pollinated, the resulting seeds are all hermaphrodites.
2. Gene pool pollution, see #1.

In my recent experience, seed companies offering extensive feminized seeds along with regulars have some issues in keeping track of what is what. That leads to excess hermaphroditism in so-called "regular" seeds.

I wouldn't call it a problem but to each there own. I like to play with regs and fems. With regs I use an entire 5 pack with fems I use singles.
