What kind of soil mixes are available in Australia for outdoor growing?

Just wanted to ask for some advice for a friend - are there any decent commercially available soil mixes or soil-less mixes such as promix or sunshine mix#4 available in Australia for outdoor growing? What should a person be using when planting and growing outside?

i make my own mate , half metre x half metre hole , 2 handfuls of dolomite lime , 5 kg of dynamic lifter, a few good handfuls of composted vegie scraps , mix well and leave to sit for atleast a few weeks before planting . The soil where i am is very sandy and drains well. Not sure what yours is like?

Most commercial mixes are JUNK. Made from garbage and dump trash ingredients. Better ones are so overpriced, that it would cost a fortune to use them for outdoor grow.
Make your own. Buy Canadian peat moss, add lime, eggshells, oyster shells for calcium, other useful additives : perlite, pine bark, sand, bone meal, wood ashes, compost, composted manure, worm castings, the list is endless, does not have to have all those ingredients, just an idea what is useful.

Thanks Buzerek. SO you're saying they sell Canadian peat moss in Australia? Would you recommend coco coir also? Cheers for your suggestions! I'll pass that stuff on.

coco based
perlite or grow stones for aeration
compost
rock dusts
soy bean meal
alfalfa meal
soft rock phosphate
fozzilised seabird guano
kelp meal
azomite (order that shit online)
mycorhizae (online or grow shop)

and a few other bits and bobs but that is the main stuff...just let that mix and sit for a month or two before you use it. Also chuck some clover seeds down if you have a big hole for your seedling/clone. The clover will be a living mulch that will also fixate a bit of nitrogen. It will die once the plant is big enough and shades the stuff.

I keep it 100% organic outdoors so no blood n bone or dynamic lifters etc etc as your eventually consuming it so keep it clean. it is cheaper making your own up and I usually spend around $25-35 per plant if you divide the costs up. Bunnings and masters Home Depot have everything you need plus a few things you may have in your house. Buzerek named a few good ones but if you have time search the net for some good ideas.

Nah b+b has bits of animal in it and dynamic lifter has animal waste in it. I always thought they didn't until told years ago that they get all the little bits of shitty flesh n bones butchers can't use or sell and grind em up n mix it with other things til end product more or less is blood n bone.

Wow. There's a market here obviously. Once you guys see what sunshine mix#4 or promix can do for you maybe somebody will start making it in Australia. Some grower needs to starting making this stuff commercially. I'd be worried that dynamic lifter would have smells that other animals might want to investigate and dig in.

Sunshine mix#4?..lol my brothers dog use to dig in it and lie in it until he started funking up the place so he switched to seaweed fert that put the dog off and better growing results.

seaweed is awesome for growing but you got to be careful when in the bush in Canada. Bears and other animals with claws like racoons will tear your soil up if they think they smell anything fishy. I'm going to try the powdered seaweed extract and mix it with water and see if that works. You can get that off of ebay. I have to start looking around online to see what's available at nursery's in Australia. I agree that it's better if you can just make your own soil mix. But out in the australian bush I wonder what the natural soil is like when you ph test it. Cana grower just churn up the local soil out there and throw down some lime and then plant after a month or to or do you have to hike in your soil mixes for each plant?

I'm pretty sure my steak has bits of animal in it but it doesn't change the fact that it's organic. Surely the organic nature of the B&B depends on well, the organic nature of the B&B, just as there is organic soil mixes at the shop, and non-organic soil mixes at the shop.

Well my misses and I are vegetarians so organic to us means more then organic to you. When you eat that steak do you think it's not got any chemicals in it?,it does and all meat does its not good for you unless its organic (even then there is millions of bad micro organisms in them FACT.). They feed animals small percentages of chemicals n minerals in their feed so that is going into you when you eat it and the same goes for soil b&b and dynamic lifter. It is not on my list to consume any product with animal shit in it or animal parts so organic to us means no animal contaminants at all. You are spot on right there is thousands of "organic" products out there but at end of the day the more people read and stay away from these "organic" items that contain animal the better it is for your body..

I was just wondering what was available to hike out and/or if the soil out in the australian bush could be churned up and seedlings or clones could be planted straight into it. Just fyi, that recipe/list of ingredients is for my veganic recipe. All organic and no BS, i.e. no animal products at all.
