does anyone use an air conditioner?

i use an window airconditioner to cool the room my grow tent is in keeping the room temp at 73 and inside the tent 75-77 and i close the doors when my lights are off. what kind of air conditioner are u thinking aobut using an inroom or window?

well the veg room is a 6' tall cabinet i bought from lowes (not recommended - shitty quality . . . you'll have to modify the structure big time) and the flower room is a coat closet so i figured buying some used ones off of craig's list (not sure whether a window unit or inroom) and retrofitting the output to my intake vents and having it plug into a power strip that is controlled by a relay connected to a simple thermostat
i was thinking maybe hooking up y connectors to the intake vents and having one end of the y be just fresh air in and the other end be cooled air so when it kicks in my normal vent fan will still be sucking in fresh air but it will be supplemented with some cool dry air (to keep the shock of just pure cold air coming in).

A/C units are awesome.. just make sure that if its the type that evaporates the water buildup the unit creates, get a hygrometer(humidity reader) and monitor the humidity in the space.

I use the a/c all the time.Id cook mine if i didnt.Hell i have buds taped to it now drying em out!!!!!!

I run a stand alone A/C in my room.... it was a MUST. My room was baking without it. I don't run it full blast..... the Low Mode keeps my room at a nice temp between 73 - 77f

hey Florida girl, I was wondering what kind of unit you use. I live in Florida too, and i was able to keep the room 77-79 up unitil this past 2 weeks now it hits 82 during the peak of the day
If I leave my closet door open it goes back to 76-77 but I want to get ac going in there....

If you run an ac in the closet youre going to end up with low humidity issues.May need a bubbler setup just to keep youre hum up!!!!PEACE

I have a 10,000 BTU free standing A/C. I had to elevate it as the condensation run off fills the puny drain pan they provided too fast. I keep my a/c up on a table and run the drain tube down to a 5 gallon bucket.hey Florida girl, I was wondering what kind of unit you use. My grow isn't restricted to a closet... so you may not need more then a 5,000 BTU. I think my biggest advice would be to make sure to get one with a 24 hour timer. Mine only has a 12 hour timer.... BIG MISTAKE! Even if you have it plugged into a timer... the timer will shut it off... but won't turn it back on. So during the 18/6 veg phase I had to turn it on every day. I didn't know this when I bought mine.
The other thing to know is that with the free standing units you HAVE to vent the heat. you can't just let it vent into the room either... that vented heat is HOT.... it HAS to go out of the room. It can be vented out a window..... but the vent tube they provide isn't that long so you have to have the unit close to the window.... or buy a length of dryer vent tube and attach it to the vent tube that comes with it.
The A/C will also run up your electricity bill .... so you only want it running during the LIGHT ON cycle. From what I've seen... I believe my A/C cost me about $50 a month to run in Veg. phase. I'm in 12/12 now so I'm expecting my next bill to be slightly lower.

Hey Florida....I was looking at a stand alone AC..My widow one has to go in the window near my bed, and it snows on me..WTF So I should get a 24hr. timer.....great..

Just installed a window unit today in a closet spot. The rear of it is is kinda in a wood box (12" of space on three sides of the ac, one side open, sits off the bottom 4")without a lid that vents into the attic. The problem is I'm afraid the hot air is not getting up out of the box, it was getting really hot back there. The timer was set to run for 4 2hr on cycles during the lights on. There are fans at each end of the attic and a small one in the box blowing up. Any other ideas for getting the temp down? Run every other hr during lights on, my best option? Temps will be going up and down some if I do this.
i use an air con ,(window type ) all summer if i am growing inside ,and it works well ,as it is fucking hot in oz ,but i have taken to outdoors in summer ,why waste the free sunshine and i grow indoors during winter ,but still use the air con as it is reverse cycle ,and can heat the room to the temp i want.
