Canadian Seal hunt controversy

IMO, there's no controversy. The seals need to be culled. There is massive over population and they are decimating fish stocks. No one is killing baby seals, that's illegal and highly enforced. All this bullshit celebrity hysteria mongering is just that, hysteria mongering.

Idiots... fucking Paul McCartney, Ellen DeGeneres, Pamela Anderson and a slew of other morons seem to be championing the cause.

But Cannabineer wants in on the action, too.

Maybe we can get Plan Canada to do a Seal commercial to help Polar Bears?

What do you know about me? Nothing, that's what. Glad to have your input though as you seem to have this trend where you comment on shit you know nothing about. It's always good for a laugh if nothing else so, please continue.

As for my political views, I'm left leaning. That's all.

This has nothing to do with 'sides' it has to do with science, and understanding the fish population and how the ecosystem is affected by a large predator that's virtually out of control population wise... From 2 million seals in the 1970's to over 9 million now....

How is going clubbing with 'Seal' Racist ? That seems like if you are a white polar bear, and you eat seal, it's the opposite of racist?

It's all down to the hypocrisy of aesthetics
"Awww baby seals are SOOOOOO cute, let's donate a song towards stopping the carnage...."

OR

"UUUUrrrggghhhhh - Snakes give me the creeps can't we pay some minorities to set them all on fire....?"

Pure hypocrisy....
But seals are cute....
So lay off the fucking seals, Cannuck!

Do what you want to the whales
I don't give 2 fucks about Dolphins
and even a panda won't fuck another panda (so they obviously know something we don't)
so you can test AIDS vaccine on them.

But leave off the seal pups
You heartless bastard!

No one kills little baby, white, seal pups. It's illegal.

Only non-white coat seals are killed.

can't they relocate some of them?..i really hate to kill them..perhaps a limited season?
There already is a limited season. It's extremely regulated.

Relocation isn't fixing the problem, we already destroyed a lot of the natural predators of the seal. Introducing them to a new area that doesn't have predators is on;y going to produce a problem in two areas.

Feed them to the homeless after using them for skeet.
I, for one, would not mind being able to pick up some ground seal at the market. If I'm not mistaken, it has a good amount of fat which would be an excellent adjunct in making meatballs in lieu of pork. The Inuit eat it raw, so there must be something good about it.

Seal meat should be eaten as soon as possible after slaughter because of the high fat content.

Actually, I am wrong.

The meat is leaner since seals carry all of their fat directly beneath their skin, and it is free of hormones typically used in farming to increase mass or growth.

EDIT: Apparently Newfies make it into sausage and Seal Pies already!

A Chef told me the meat didn't keep well.... hmmm Guess he was wrong!
He may be right, depending on how the meat is eaten, perhaps? If one wants the raw experience, like sushi, you'd probably want to eat it while it's still bleeding as opposed to freezing and thawing later (which one can do with Salmon and Tuna).
It looks like an interesting culinary experience. Somewhere between a mild liver and venison.
I'm definitely intrigued to try the Newfie pies...those people are Canada's secret kitchen geniuses. Who else can turn Cod's Tongue into a delicacy?
