Yes, I’ve done that as well but have found out that if u wrap the clogged half with plastic wrap forceing the air to go thru the cleaner half of the filter and leaving the rivets alone works well as well

Hay,I had the same problem with my filter it clogged up at one end, I washed the prefilter sock and switched the ends around it was like I got a New carbon filter, it lasted almost as long as new.
