Honestly, brand matters with your light. SpiderFarmer if you want to leave it alone. Mars if you oversee a lot. HLG if you want bang for buck and know your plant.

You do this so the roots dont only grow down but spread out so it intakes more nutrients at an earlier age. In short, it makes the plant grow faster and higher quality.
So. Gnats are annoying to deal with, the root cause is you're oversaturating your soil which gives them a home. In soil, you can get away with letting it dry out well. I actuallly dont like fabric pots for indoor for this reason.
