I actually started growing in 2007 while I wasn't very good until after I joined forums. I grew in dirt at first but when I joined the forums back in 2009 I started playing with cloners and low pressure aeroponics. I love lpa but I can't dump the water and it becomes inefficient to cool the reservoir. So I started growing in CoCo a couple, 3 years back then switching to organic soil with bottled organic nutrients in the warm months.
Very recently I started reading more about truly organic soil. I learned that if you are using truly organic soil with no chemical salts the plants release something called exudates to attract specific fungi and bacteria to provide the exact nutrient they need. (When you truly understand this paragraph it changes what you think about "the best way to grow".
I have also "played with many other ways to grow". Flood table, soil less, dwc, some I can't think of I'm sure and High Pressure Aero for two whole grows..
