You would be money ahead to just buy an electric solenoid and usea Tee fitting. You then let the pump run costant but just contri ol instead where the water flows. Water always picks the path of least resitance. If you put a large solenoid down (as large as your pump discharge isze pipe) at or near your reservoir on a Tee fitting any time the solenoid opens the flowof water would be out the Tee fitting and straight back into your reservoir. A small pump uses very little wattage and will last a long time if just left running 24/7 as designed.
