Serious Seeds vs Dutch Passion

What would be your choice if choosing between these two seed providers? Any experience with any of them? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

Depends on what you're lookin for. Both are old school companies. Both have different genetics that their known for.
I would only shop either with that in mind

Did dutch passion stop breeding their own?
My uneducated guess is they haven't done anything since the 70s? If anything originally? That's a whole debate on its own ... So I would say (until corrected) that no they are not doing any breeding programs. Hard to say if even Serious Seeds has any breeding programs going on right now. But everything Serious Seeds has is their own. And almost everything Dutch has...is not their own.

They did inherit warlock and a few others from Magus genetics however the dude who ran that always said if standards slip too much he wouldn't let em sell there varieties and they still got em these days for what it's worth as for Dutch passion the odd thing was there own the rest was bought in some not paid for entirely either like blueberry for example they ripped DJ off pretty sure also there older khola was in reality kc33 as well

Dutch Passion does have some lines that are distinctly there own, Purple Star > Frisian Dew > Frisian Duck and they have some crosses they've been selling for decades like shaman or power plant. Even their Master Kush doesn't seem to have changed since the late 90's when I grew it.

Although their reputation has changed, they were known more for mids then fire genes and Serious Seeds or THSeeds were always regarded as being better quality and worth the higher price.

In the intro to the first cannabible Robert C Clarke lists a bunch of varieties they brought to market including purple star and I believe their master kush. They were a typical 90's seed company that are a mix of knock offs, originals or polyhybrids sticking true to the seedy nature of the biz. All that being said, one of my favorite plants was from a cross of their skunk, purple star and master kush where 1 seed out of the 100-150 planted was deep purple with an incredible terp profile that was fruity, spicy and had musky undertones. Serious Seeds on the other hand has produced a lot of killer plants as AK47 is a pretty foundational variety right up there with NL#5, Skunk #1 and Haze.

This is a tough one...
Dutch passion for depth of strains
Serious for reputation...

I would go dutch passion for some old school fire

When have the admitted it's changed as I remember hearing an interview where Simon was laughing about the claims their AK are worse now that they sell fems and stated they had actually made the switch earlier but didn't announce it to see if people would see a difference but didn't until after they labeled them as new seeds. Suggesting it's more notebook effect then fact. Unless you meant how they changed a long time ago when people stopped finding the cherry AK pheno's

That was back in what, the late 90's? The irony of the outrage is people complaining about a variety being stabalized which inherently means less expression of phenos. Many people have grown and loved AK47 over the last 20 odd years so I wouldn't consider the genetics degraded, Simon selected and moved the variety in the direction he wanted which means rare outliers disappeared from the gene pool which some people disagreed with but clearly it's still solid genetics as it's being sold decades after it was introduced. Which isn't the case with most varieties that disappear just as quickly as they burst onto the scene.

This ripping off bit kind of makes me chuckle. There are very few breeders out there, if any, that are bothering with any breeding program. The market is demanding whatever is popular at the moment. An actual breeding program would be a waste of money when most are just buying based on a strain name.
One would be better off doing a seed run, and calling the selected plant something already out there at this point.

Grown both of these, probably would go with serious cause I loved the bubble gum so much.
Personally, I switched to Barney's Farm now and I'm pretty happy since.
