First, when you water the top of the soil should be relatively dry. If you put your finger in the soil about 2in, you should be able to feel moistness. That's when you should water. I check mine on a daily basis. Second, buy a pH testing kit (cheap like 5$), make sure the pH is between 5-6. A little on the high side is better than a little low (Low is acidic, and will kill as fast as weed killer). Next time you water, water it until you have run off coming out the bottom, pH test that water. If it shows up that it is acidic, flush the plant with correctly pH water until the run off is on the high side of correct. Then wait a few days and let me know how she's doing.
