If you're getting big ph swings you're either not letting your solution sit long enough to settle or you have something growing in your res. Either way, anytime your above 6.2 or below 5.4 your Hurting your grow. GoLdD

It's likely nutrient build up in your hydroton from when you went rogue. You might have done some damage to your roots zone there as well, which would account for the discoloration. You'll be good at hydro when you let the plant tell you what to do, instead of the other way around. GoLdD
