***The 7th Official Party Cup Grow Competition Thread***

Damn the big one is coming right along with baby triq's already. My choice girl is just slightly behind. The male and runt are going to make beautiful babies together. Im thinking they'll go in the same pot under some gen 1 veros Im recycling.

Why do some want high CRI?

Why don't you buy one and test it yourself instead of looking to others to do so? Since you're the only one who's actually interested in these obscure hid lamps/reflectors/ballasts. Plants are only interested in delivered photons. Cobs deliver more photons per joule. Nuff said

    Kingbrite Rocks

I recently received a email from kingbrite that china post would no longer be an option.... apparently some packages were disappearing? I don't know the whole story but we may be stuck with dhl from now on.

On the note of reflectors- http://www.gavita-holland.com/helpdesk/knowledgebase.php?article=12 Even without the cost of the reflectors, that's still an operating cost difference of $2124... you can almost buy three PLC CX-300 LED panels for the price of replacement bulbs and electricity...

Replacement reflectors: $40 every year or two. $200-400 cost over the course of 10 years. Not counting the cost of labor. Plus the cost of a new bulb, again $100 every year or two, $500-1000 over the course of 10 years. Again not counting labor. Assuming the lamp ONLY draws 1000w and nothing...

I don't know if I agree with that point either. You may not make up the difference in electrical savings alone. However, you will save on replacement bulbs, which gets considerable over the years and contributes to a lot of waste.... Especially with designs like the gavita with disposable...

Just thought I'd also point this out. That's also much higher, even after hitting the LM-70 point, than the average brand new 600w HPS sold in most of the cheap 'starter' packages sold online.... Most of those cheap HID's are only mid 30's before they start to depreciate. The lower power HID's...

REALSTYLES 6th DIY CXA 3590 5000k DB bin

That's not what we're saying at all. Sorry but that's just stupid. The point we're( or at least I, not to put words into churches fingers) trying to make is that a more efficient light source lets you use less overall power displacement in order to achieve the same photon density. Thus reducing...

You'll never get mid 40's with a gavita in real world conditions either. 1: All HID lamps experience depreciation and spectrum shift as they age. The moment you turn it on the efficiency starts to diminish. It may START at 40+% efficiency, but if you consider average efficiency over the...

Please DO me a SOLID Concerning cxb3590 Light Build

First you need to understand the data sheet. Everything you need to know about the chip itself and it's power requirements can be found in there. Bins, part numbers, voltage/current reuirements, ect, all in there. Same with the drivers. Drivers can be tricky to locate, but not impossible once...

I'll agree on the pricing. HID lamps are much more cost effective. Doubtful one would ever recover the price of a 65% efficient cxb panel on electrical savings alone. If your motivation is to save money in the short term then you're looking in the wrong spot. I'd argue that led panels...

He asked how much would be overkill. Anything north of 1kw using vero or cxb emitters is going to be overkill for the average person unless your driving them balls to the wall.

Anything beyond 1500 umol/s/m^2 is generally considered to be overkill for cultivating cannabis. The 'ideal' range is still a topic of much debate.

Area 51 Why wait, seems you can buy cree cobs lights now

T5's are less of everything except power displacement. Less glass, less gas, smaller electrodes, smaller fixtures, everything... makes no sense to me either.... I've been looking at cheap LED strips to replace T5's..... cheaper, easier, less fragile, and work better to boot!
