First Time Grower, wondering if I messed up completely, or if everything OK.

Funny shit. Sometimes I wonder if some of these post are just someone trying to fuck with everybody. Sometimes... Idk. Some of these post are just hilarious on how much is just done wrong. No offense to the OP but come on, you gotta research a little first.

plant diagnosis too much N cauing small leafy bud and black leaves???

Yeah, I've seen suggestions from others who use coco saying go as low as 5.2 and up to 5.8, topping out at maybe 6.0? I've go into the 5.3's when I batch a fresh reservoir because I know it will slowly drift up anyways. I've noticed no ill-effects from going that low.

    What the heck are these?!

That sucks man. I have no idea what those are, assuming some type a larvae? Either way hopefully someone with some outdoors experience jumps in. Doesn't Bayer make some insecticides that some people use?

    Week one dwc Turning YELLOW

Never hurts to ask. Biggest things with dwc is total dissolved oxygen and reservoir/bucket temperature. The latter effects the first one. I see you're already watching the temps so you're on the right path.

    anyone know...

That's where the runoff goes, into the big green pipes. Then I imagine they drain back to his reservoir. The pvc pipe just supplies the sprayers. The big green pipe recovers runoff and just allows more room for root growth. I've seen people use 10 or 12 inch pvc but never anything that big. A...

    Week one dwc Turning YELLOW

Just wanted to be sure you just didn't throw it in the clay pellets with the soil and everything, hey you'd be surprised. I've never rinsed roots before, I know other people do it, or have done it. It could be stressing over the transplant and its new environment.

Rookie here. A little help please.

Just trying to help. I know its hard starting from scratch. I can remember, vaguely, when I first started this hobby. It is hard when you have to teach yourself almost everything. Get a journal or something to take down notes, plans, sketches, lessons learned etc. It helps to right it down, gets...

    Week one dwc Turning YELLOW

How did you go from soil to dwc? Just curious as to whats going on under those clay pellets. That's a pretty small plant, how are the roots? hanging down into water? Again just curious as to what you did to transplant it.

They look happy, Praying to the light and everything.

    nutrient burn or nitrogen toxicity?

If its just a few small ones, like the bottom leaf in your photo, I would just pull them off. The rest of the plant looks good in the full sized picture.

    nutrient burn or nitrogen toxicity?

N toxicity will make the leaves a real dark green and can cause them to "claw". N deficiency will show up with yellowing of bottom growth. Just curious. Why do you keep pushing the silica? What do you think it does?

    molasses in hydroponics?

Agree with the kelp and humic. I think the benefits of humic, or fulvic, acids are underrated.

    Critique my first setup

Yeah, I know the difference between what the human eye responds to and what plants respond to. And you should go by par and not lumens. Either way, I know the plant wants more than just red and blue. As far as supplemental lighting goes, anything from cfl's, T5's, hps or metal halide. If you...

Rookie here. A little help please.

Sounds like you are just getting started. I suggest a book or getting your info from reputable websites, not forums. You will get every opinion, and more, on the forums. The problem with the forums is you have to have a little insight as to whats going on or you won't know when someone is giving...

    Critique my first setup

Last time I checked hps still offers more lumens per watt then Leds. And I don't care what they said to get you to buy those but they are not full spectrum. Full spectrum looks white to the human eye, not purple. 2 150 watt hps lights, 300 watts total would out perform your led.

    molasses in hydroponics?

Plants produce all the sugars they need. They, themselves cannot even break down complex sugars. Soil growers can use it to feed to the micro-organisms in the soil, which then aid in nutrient uptake. Just becasue it doesn't do any harm to your plants that doesn't mean its doing any good. The...

    cooling 5 gallon dwc bucket

You can use the coils out of a dehumdifier. Google it, theres probably all kinds of examples and videos. "Using a dehumidifier as a water chiller"

    Critique my first setup

I don't really think they were bashing leds in general, just the ones you're using. Those first generation purple/pink retarded looking lights... yeah those. If you haven't noticed the new leds aren't pink anymore. They provide full spectrum, which is what everybody is after not just the blue...
