no holes or damage just rotting, theres small leaves growing near and around the rot spot tho

this is my first plant outside and thers an area on the trunk where it looks like its rotting, its about 6 months old and its not budding yet but it looks like its starting to (white hairs on the internotes?). i also noticed some of my leaves closest to the bottom are dying off. what should i do?
