UM.... In my experience. you can fill up the water as high as possible. doesn't matter and also try putting a black garbage bag with no holes at the bottom of the res... open of course with airstone and hose in the bag. the res changes are way easier and you don't have to clean it. peace...

you are fine brother for one plant. if you want to add extra that is all great. personally i would sort of prune into a lollipop them because you will have undergrowth that will not really give you anything. so the pruning will make all the nutes go to the top where all the light is. happy...
