Honestly I'm not to sure about Malic Acid, but you can get citric acid from the grocery store for cheap and it seems to be a safe bet.

Citric acid is the main ingredient in Flying Skull and it worked great on a aphid issue I had last year so that should work for you.

Doesn't single blade leaf suggest re-veg or can stress from pest cause that as well? Is the suspected pest thirps or mites?

I use Flying Skull Nuke em During flower. A little pricey but I've had good results with it.
