    Manipulatin' her ...

Most ppl here seem to think so. What I don't get is this: WW or NW already has more red and deep red than HPS. HPS has excellent flowering So why is extra red or deep red needed for WW or NW.

Deep Dimming Drivers (dim to zero or off)

Thanks this is good to know. The dimming is still step-wise, right? As in jumping straight from 10% to 20% etc.

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

That driver would pair well with a vero18, only drawback is the bit weak efficiency of 84%.

More Money Than Brains - a water cooled cab build

Congrats on taking the plunge! And on you choice of flowering light... the Vero 4000K. You have chosen wisely. From the photo it looks like the smaller veg vero's are 5000K? I see your flowering room is 80cm heigh. With the three intense lights so close it will be a challenge to get an even...

General COB or Bridgelux Vero 18 cooling

Yes that Arctic fan is better, it has fluid dynamic bearings.

    Step into my grow room

Skunky I would be happy with that yield. About the CO2 distribution, there really is a lot of air movement going on thanks to the four PC fans (12W of very efficient fan power). I looked at the air patterns using smoke and it basically circles around clockwise. So from the bottle it flows to the...

If it's the aluminium encased waterproof drivers, I think they may be more solid. That is smart, I have blown up two 12V wall warts and concluded they are not meant to run full time near capacity. Especially when relying on active cooling to prevent the COB from melting, better not skimp on...

    Step into my grow room

The cap of the bottle is screwed on loosely, there is no line probably just the shadows playing tricks. You are probably right that 400W is about the maximum of what a cabinet like this can take with a normal exhaust fan, otherwise the air inside just becomes too hot. The advantage of LEDs is...

    Step into my grow room

Most drivers are from Satisled, I have these. Three of them failed with the first hour, a fourth failed with a loud bang after a couple days (cap blown). So highly not recommended. But as long as they do work the efficiency is surprisingly good. These drivers are powering 4 vero's each. There is...

    Step into my grow room

That's just a pencil :-) "The difference between science and screwing around is writing it down" (Adam Savage). Today I had to really raise the lights and now they are hanging slanted. The canopy is also slanted so it matches quite well. There's 300W (measured from the power outlet) going...

    Step into my grow room

The Vero's are running a bit soft at 300-325mA. This makes it possible to cool them passively, although there is a massive wind blowing across them (generated by the 4 PC fans). I call this semi-passive cooling, meaning that the light will keep working when the active cooling should fail...

Seeking Help - Building Custom-Designed DIY LED Grow Lights using CREE CXA3070 COBs

Wow that is a powerful light, the spectrum should be very nice too with those extra 5000K's. But why place the 5000K's so far apart? The center now has the least coverage. Just nitpicking here...

    Step into my grow room

The Narnia vibe is there alright, it's like opening another dimension. It's also the brightness inside makes it look much bigger than it is. The grow is started from seeeds from Female Seeds: 2x C99, 2x Lemon Kush and 2x ICE. Planted on dec 27 and, as planned, all broke soil on jan 1st. In 1...

The hinges are from Ikea, the 18mm board material is also what Ikea uses. For sealing: silicon chaulk for the cracks inside and double opposing weather strips for the door. The exhaust fan is a Soler & Palau TD160 "Silent" and inside there are a bunch of 12cm PC fans. The heatsinks are aluminium...

    Step into my grow room

It's more a grow cabinet, here is what it looks like It looks exactly like an Ikea Pax wardrobe but it is in fact made from scratch from melaminated chipboard. It measures 120 cm wide, 60 deep and 210 high. Lets have a peek inside The flower room below is 120 cm high. On top of that there...

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

According to the Cree tool, it is already possible with the CXA3070... just run at 350 mA and cool with liquid nitrogen (-196C) :-)

    floods and highbays

For supplementing with brand COBs 100W of warm white per baylight would be OK. The COBs would be twice as efficient as the baylights so the effective ratio of warm:cool would be 2:1. The baylights give a measly 60 lumen per watt so you might want to replace the emitter with a brand COB as well...

Seeking Help - Building Custom-Designed DIY LED Grow Lights using CREE CXA3070 COBs

What they measure there is quite a lot worse than what is promised in the specs. No dimming measured 85% efficient while specs indicate 95% (a tripling of the power loss). And with dimming just kiss goodbye to efficiency.
