You wouldn't want a window unit just venting into your room, you'd be pumping enough hot air into the room to cancel out the benefit of the cool air. For AC go with a portable unit that you can duct the exhaust out of the room, or a mini split like the one you found on ebay.

Yep, that's exactly what I had to do. I run a scrog with each plant in a small pan of it's own and in it's own frame/screen (yay for modular). For normal feeding/watering it's excellent, but I had a few Kali Mists getting too much nutes and I had to flush them out using the turkey baster method.

Soil in my experience is slower than any type of hydro. If I were trying for really big moms and lots of cuttings I'd probly go DWC, top/FIM early so she's nice and bushy by the time she gets big.

Mmm, looks nice. Get a loupe and check the trichs, I usually like to flush when just a few are going amber. They tend to put on a lot of their weight in the last 1-2 weeks, so avoid cutting early if you can, really depends on the strain.

Depends on the strain, but in the last 2-3 weeks it's normal to have fan leaves start to yellow and drop off. This will accelerate when you start to flush. If it's earlier on and the whole plant seems to get pale green then start to yellow, it may be a sign it's not getting enough nutrients...
