touch your hoods. are they hot? if so your not expelling the air out of your hoods. what size flanges are on your hoods and what fan are you using? Sounds like a 8" fan reduced to 6" pushing through the lights. If your hoods are cool to the touch than your intake temp must be high.

Your only problem is your ducting. When you reduce 12" to 6" is won't work. You probably have blow back coming from your 12" fans. Its too much of a drop. You need to split your fan gradually. use y connectors. Your light can still be in a line but your ducting would look more like this 12 x 8...

Hold on - I never even asked what you were using these with. Totes? or Buckets. I use Buckets. .If your using totes you may want to drill a littler smaller hole first because the plastic is soft.

I use the 1" uniseals from this site. The hole I drill is 1 3/4". These don't leak, Trust me on this. Pay the money and order these. I tried the grommets from hd and they eventually leaked. I see what you mean about the 1/2" and 3/4" showing the same size hole. I'm not sure - I only used the 1"...
