I would look close at the branches in question from the tip down slowly paying special attention to the bracts lower down and see if there is a hole( it is small ) then probe it with a paper clip . I have also heard of injections of spinosad or bt working . Or once sure it’s a goner chop...

Borer in the stalk?the squash vine borer is a bad one. Look for holes in the stalk or branches
