    1200watt meizhi in 2x4x5

You are right, but HydroDan is claiming that the efficiency level does not matter which is complete bullshit. You only get to utilize less wattage due to the efficiency. If you have 30% efficient LED from cheap panel vs. 60% efficient COBS, you need half the wattage to obtain the same usable...

Introducing CobKits.com - specializing in DIY and Citizen COBs

Yes and no... Just because the driver is pulling that much from the wall does not mean you are getting more juice to your COBS. The only way to check what you are outputting to each cob is to test at the chip. The reason you are pulling 168w is you probably have 120v AC delivery. The...

    Are cobs really worth it?

Dimming is for pussies. 700w of 45%+ efficiency will rock HPS. 800w of 50%+ efficiency will rock DE HPS. I have 1250w of COB. 400w is 45% efficient, the rest is 56%. Do not even have a dimmer installed.

    Tasty LED promo lamps offer

Thanks Rahz! Just put in an order for some more equipment to support it. Have plants in veg about ready to turn over for testing! I will start a grow log here shortly.

Warning to anyone buying from kingbright

Sounds like taxes for your country, not Kingbrites fault. This would happen if you ordered from other places as well (potentially).

    Led kits pricing

RapidLED has some good prices on "kits", better than the "big names" around here.

Power Savings from COB switch...REAL Numbers

On the high end, first grow w/ 1000w of LED and all costs associated for startup and first run is about $2500. Thereafter, no more than $550/grow for everything I need including electricity/water. Yield about 1250g per run so you do the math :) Either way, well worth it :D Even @ $2500 first...

Apologies, I read your post wrong.

Power Savings from COB switch...REAL Numbers

Ok, you dropped roughly 60% usage off your bill from losing 418w per hour. Total per month you saved in power was ~150 KW/h. That does not add up to the 60% you are claiming and I guarantee that running 50% fan usage (saving what, maybe 1.2 KWh per DAY, or about 36 KWh per month) and the...

Power Savings from COB switch...REAL Numbers

Yes, I understand that, but that is why you save the money. You do not have to run as much COB lighting to match HPS, which is where the savings is at. Either way you look at it, you are saving. Although, at 1000w in a 4x4, you are pretty much spinning your wheels and wasting energy with COB...

Power Savings from COB switch...REAL Numbers

You have not grown with cobs if you think 600w of COB = same yield as 600w HPS. Unless you are completely spaced limited and providing way too much light, 600w of COB even at 45% will tear apart a 600w HPS (even beat out DE, let alone getting above 50% where it will tear up DE).

Power Savings from COB switch...REAL Numbers

No one does it, I was just proving a point. How much wall draw do you have with your COBS? How much did you have with your HPS? There is your savings...... And yes, 430w of 3590 will tear apart a 600w HPS. You are saving roughly 130w/hour. If you figure on 12/12 for the month (call it 30...

Power Savings from COB switch...REAL Numbers

What do you need actual usage for? If you use 600w of high efficiency COB lighting to replace a 1000w in a 4x4 area, you save 4.8 Kwh per day. There is literally nothing more to it than that. If you replaced your 1000w HPS with 1000w COB lighting @ 30% efficiency, you have the same thing. If...

Question for the LED Cob lighting experts---is this a good deal?

You do realize that the heatsink he is using can cool 95w CPUs and keep the temperature well below 85c in a cpu case? You do realize that each of those chips is running at 50w? Seems to me those Intel HSF will do just fine for the application. In fact, that HSF will handle more heat than...

Passive PC Heat Sinks, will these work for CREE COBS???

Probably not passive at 50w but active yes.

Passive PC Heat Sinks, will these work for CREE COBS???

Heat is heat. A lot of those CPU coolers are far better than the pin heatsinks everyone uses, even passive. Most of those are designed to handle higher wattage than people are running these cobs.

    New LEDS

Gotcha. I ordered a lux meter so that should give me an idea of where its at. Ill also get a better reading on the temps. I know on the hottest spot, it does not get near 85c and the TC is near the corner of ht echip.

    New LEDS

New DB bin 3590 @ 3500k gives about 8% more lm/w than the CD bin. CD bin @ 1.4a was already 56% efficient. DB bin should be about 58-59% efficient @ 1.4a 36v. Ill take that all day long for $36/chip. Whoever posted that the 3590 are $50, look elsewhere....
