I'll definitely jump on the perlite bandwagon. Love the stuff, it is a versatile medium and easy to work with. Qroox, you can also spray the algae with a diluted hydrogen peroxide solution to kill the algae off if it gets too bad. Just lightly mist the top of the perlite.
