Have any of you DIY COB Growers finished a crop under 1000W DE HPS? - POLL

Have you ever seen what electronics look like on the inside of their pretty outer cover?? So if my light fixture was UL/ETL listed, had a pretty box wrapping around it and just had a removable ballast chord and a power knob (dimmer), [and I ask again], would there be a market for that kind of...

Haha so first it's show me an LED light that can perform just as well as Gavita (or better). Check. Done. Mission accomplished. Then it's show me light that performs better than Gavita, and looks really cool too. Not too big maybe pocket sized? Gotta have the aesthetics to grow dank...

I yielded more than most HID grows with my first run on these. Including DE. Over 3lb per 4.5' x 4.5'. And the quality is a great improvement as well. No worries Chuck. :hump:

Yes. That is what I'm referring to. Each 600w+ fixture would still cover 25-36 sq ft. The fixture itself would be about 12-14 sq ft. Imagine a ceiling full of evenly spaced high power LEDs. The canopy penetration is unequaled due to the multiple sources of light.

I just pulled 1.41 GPW off of a 3000w grow. Over 2.5 oz per sq ft. With COB LED. Ceilings are at 78". I could build you a fixture to beat your Gavita DE 1000w and would use between 600w-700w... But it would cost (retail) probably $1600-1800, to maintain that "profit margain". Actual cost...

    The far red thread

Not to get in the middle of this, and for the sake of learning and clarification ... But it seems that everything posted about UV-B exposure lends to the idea that UV-B radiation affects the entire planet as a whole, with different levels of exposure depending on several variables. Instead of...

Huge is a relative term, but these things got pretty darn big! Grown under Vero 29.

    The Dawg Father's DIY Vero29 960 Watt 5x5 Scrogg

I run 3000w of COB in a sealed room with Co2. My lights bring my ambient temps up 20+ degrees. Impossible to use without air conditioning in a "sealed" environment. I keep my ambient temps under 80 at ALL times. I also have a high temp cut-off switch in case my mini-split dies, otherwise I'd...

    Will LED lights ever....

Just Space your COB's 10"-12" on center and you pretty much can't go wrong if using Vero 29/CXB3590. Especially when reflectors are utilized. Massive numbers per square foot if you know how to train plants well. I nearly doubled the yield I'm used to getting under my 600 HPS. These LEDs are...

I recently just had some astonishing results in all of those categories under my high power array. I think you are set-up to do the same.

    Will LED lights ever....

That's why I said "while maintaining most of their output" i.e. > 90% or better. I would suspect closer to 100,000 hours of actual operation under typical grow room conditions, with the COB's being under driven and actively cooled.

    Will LED lights ever....

The same could be said about the start-up cost of a top of the line DIY COB LED fixture. The light will pay for itself within a harvest if designed properly (keeping in mind we are growing a cash crop). These COB fixtures are typically under-driven and should easily last between 5-10 years of...

If 10" - 12" spacing of COBs, you should get between 25 - 36 sq ft. of coverage depending on heighth above canopy.

Are you looking for a pre-built fixture or a DIY replacement? A properly built DIY light will be capable of producing between 1.5-3+ oz per sq ft. regardless of efficiency. (Strain/Skills dependent of course) Efficiency just depends on how much you want to spend. Less wattage costs more. Or...
