Can someone explain why draining water is needed as opposed to just keeping it in during the growth process assuming you have a ppm meter and can keep track of the nutes? Is it possible that never changing the water during the start to finish give you good results? BTW I plan on growing autos.

Im pretty sure they go into flower automatically after a 2-3 week veg keeping a 18-6 or 24-0 photoperiod the whole time so a 5-7 week veg might not be possible. All the same thanks for the info on the nutes.
