Oh wow, I didn't even notice HTG had 1 bulb fixtures. AND they can daisy chain! cuts my lighting cost down by 33%! Thanks man!

If I can find a single bulb fixture for half the price of the double bulb it will be fine. Got any ideas?

I did some math and research online and between 100-200 umol is the optimal lighting. To achieve about 175 I would, luckily, only need one fixture of two 5000 lumen t5 bulbs per 4'x2.5' shelf. That would bring me to a total of 6 fixtures covering at $600. I found the fixtures online including...

Thanks for the input. I definitely have a lot of research to go, but I have a years time to get ready. It's hard to find a lot of info on using LEDs to grow arabidopsis. There's some university stuff, some of which I have read, but a lot of it goes off on discussing stuff very complicated not...

So if I were to dedicate 50-75 square feet and used 6 x 100DS panels with the fan you use for ventilation without a tent, I should be able to replicate your 1-2 degree temp increase?

What lighting/ventilation do you have in there and how hot does it get?

I think my only option then would be to run LEDs, if T5 would run up the power bill due to energy and a/c usage. I'd only be running the lights 9-10 hours a day as well. If advanced led's can give me a discount down to, say, 275 per DS100, that would get my total lighting cost down to *1650...

I'll be growing bio-lumenescent arabidopsis, not cannabis.

So, my father gave me a grand idea. We have a detached "workshop" out in the back yard which is about 10' by 14' -- I can probably get 2 layers of plants on both sides of the workshop if I make them about 3 1/2 ft by 10 ft. That will give me 140 sq ft to work with, or 2,000 plants. I know...

PPF Typical (μmol/s) 57 (from their specs) It's only half the power of the DS100 -- would cover more area, yes, but it doesn't seem worth it. Also it appaers to have a very limited spectrum. DS100 is 11 band IIRC.

The $175 was for a grow tent, not a light. Still no way I'm spending that much on a light though. For the right lights I'd spend 275 or so, which is what the DS would cost me.

I am using a tent for light control, as I won't have a full room I can devote to the plants. I have helped fund a project for some scientists to create a bio-luminescent species of plant. The main reason why I want to use LEDs is because keeping the temperature as close to 72F as possible is...

As long as the light will cover the area that's okay, but I don't know how many degrees the light shines, and what height I would need for the range to equal 16square ft. Do you think I could fit the light under a fold up table and have it still cover the 16sq ft? EDIT: For some reason I was...

So one 6 bulb 4 foot T5 setup should work for a 4x4' area? If so thanks you just saved me some bucks! EDIT: according to the site you linked me, I'd have to get a 8 bulb setup for 4x4 coverage.

I have an idea: If I get some of these: http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-GrowBright-4-Foot-6-Lamp-High-Output-T5-With-Choice-of-Bulbs.asp Can I make levels in my grow tent to have 3 levels to get 3x the plants? Any ideas on how I can do that efficiently?

What T5 bulb setup would you recommend? Got a link for a good one? How much heat do they give off? Any other info I should know? That is one solution I don't think I have ever looked into.

Hey guys, new to the forum and have probably read about 50 pages in this thread. I will be growing arabidopsis next year and I was looking at light solutions. At first I was going to go CFLs, but since I was going to do at least 16 square feet I figured that there was a better solution. I...
