    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

There ya go man those are the best pics I can get right now. I think the ideal holders are probably easier to use, these ones were OK if you take your time and do it right.

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

I used these for my light. You either need to make a hole for the pin or cut the pin off. If you do the later, make sure you hold it still when you screw it down or it will twist.

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

You can run up to 5 on that driver. Edit. If you run 20 Cobbs with 4 or 5 of those drivers, you will be using right around 800 watts from the wall, this would give right around 32watts per square foot for a 5x5 area.

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

    1) I marked out on the heat sink with a pencil where the fins were, 2) then I placed the cobs where I wanted them to be on the heatsink, 3) I placed the holders where they would be on the cob/heatsink making sure the screw hole was between the fins, 4) I marked with a pencil where the screw...

I have (2) 3k ab's (1) 4k and (1) 5k but I can't remember off hand what bin they are. I built this light in attempt to have a multi stage light for flower and veg, but also as an experiment to see how the different spectrum may be of any benefit or not. I plan on buying more ab 3k's later on and...

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

. i believe those are to drop in a small hole so when you screw them down they don't move. I just built a light with them last night and cut them off with a razor blade. If you do what I did, just be careful when screwing them down so the holder doesn't twist while mounting your cobs. And as...

Thank you bicit. I read over the entire thread twice and couldn't remember if the calculations from theories were for heat or total disipation. I figured most were using total disipation.

I have a quick question regarding what we are rating the heatsink for. Would it be total wattage of the light source or just the dissipated heat wattage of the light source?

    Heatsinks for DIY LED lamps

Oh yes I know ha ha. The only light I have right now is 10 inches long and using 3w diodes, for that I don't see a point in messing with it. My next light I plan on making much bigger. I have the tools and knowledge for modifying soft metals like aluminum (worked 5 years as a 3axis cnc...

Thank you supra, My idea for my setup is to size my heatsink to be able to run passively in the 1percent chance that a fan fails. Redundancy is what I'm shooting for. I'd hate to lose multiple $65 cxa3070 ab cobs because of a fan going out while im at work, but still aquire the benefit of...

Aluminum is not a good idea to use. Brass and copper should get along fine.

Water cooling is a great idea, just please be careful mixing different metals in the same loop.
